It's a sad day in our house today. It is with regret that I announce the passing of our 2H. I have been trying to diagnose what I thought was a valve or lifter problem for a while now. Took it in to a friends shop to see if we could diagnose the problem. Got out the stethoscope and nothing in the top end. Finally did a compression test and all about 525 except no.4 at 400. Shot a bit of oil in and up she came to 525 .
My friend figures the noise may be from a piece of broken ring getting pounded on top of the piston. That might account for the noise going away and then returning. At least I finally know the motor is hooped. Now I have some decisions to make. I won't be getting it rebuilt I know that much. pete

My condollences. The same thing happened to my 2H. After 450,000 klm she lost two piston rings. Chewed things up fo show. Had her rebuilt only to sell her and get a kick ass 1HZ from G&S.

Good luck.

pull the nead and take a look, if there is something in there it "might" be able to be removed and keep driving the baby till it dies, it could be years yet before that happens esp if the compression is still above 400...
i would not retire that engine quite yet...

I know it is still young at 350km and I guess it wouldn't hurt in my education about all things Landcruiser so maybe I'll do that. It's my wifes DD so now I have to find her something, another cruiser I hope. If I only had the money for a JDM ;) pete

suggestion,
in the mean time pick up a civic or other cheap fuel efficient vehicle. if you get a good enough deal you can always sell the car after yo find out what is wrong...

Kate actually got named for her BC plate number KTE 045 or something. I was thinking "Big Nosed Kate" of Wyatt Erp fame. When the twin came along it only seemed fitting to name her Ashley.

There's no telling how my junk gets named. I once had a dumb, arrigant, yellow cat I named Judge Ito.
