I have a strange key issue where I have one key that that will open all doors including the glove box and another code-cut key that works on all doors and can only lock the glove box but not unlock it. The profiles look exactly the same. I'd like to know which ridges of the key are used by the glove box cylinder.

sounds like you have valet key. gotta keep those pesky valets out of the "good stuff".

That's what I was thinking but I can't see any difference in the profiles of the keys. The new key was cut based off the code a dealer pulled for me. I'm wondering if the parts monkey at whatever local dealer I went to didn't know there were separate valet keys and gave me that code instead of the master. I was kind of thrown about the "can lock but no unlock" deal but I can see that as useful feature.

Can anyone out there who still has their valet key see if it'll lock the glove box and not unlock it?

Thanks for the quick shipping Matt. Here is a full set for you. Feel free to snag it.

I suppose that is certainly possible, wish I knew for sure. Key works everywhere without any real issue in all locks but the hatch and glovebox. I initially thought it was just the spare/valet key and the spare I have was based on that. But looking at the first couple posts it sounds like maybe only the original master came with the rubber/molded plastic shell and the spares were metal(?).

Looking at the key it seems to be an original based on guidance earlier in this thread:

Had the car at the dealer last week and I asked the dealership if they'd give me the codes, even if I buttered it up and bought a new key from them....no luck, wouldn't give me the key codes. I did order a new key from them for $7 just to see if it would help out with the lock situation.

I'll be pulling some of the door panels off in the next month or two though, when I do I'll check the codes and order one of yours for sure.
