I cant tell what it is both rims have lil dings in them but nothing major. I mangled my front rim worse than the two in the back to no ill effect. Anyway both tires wobble in the rear of the truck, it looks like at the same time. I started to feel it during braking they would shutter and a guy at work said both my back wheels wobble so...I got my girl to drive my truck and followed in her 80. Sure enough both back wheels wobble.

Is it possible that i bent both axle shafts? the axle housing? I did break my track bar and had to weld it back to the housing, but from look-see it seems straight. I was also pondering if a c-clip fell off. I am running RDB so if a c-clip fell off its not the axle would walk out.

Is it possible that both rear axle bearings went at the same time causing the wheels to wobble. I finally got to see it for myself and I'm a lil ticked. I will see what I can find after work tomorrow...

any one got any ideas???

I had two bent axles once, so it is possible....I had just put on wider tires and new wheels and I had the damn things balanced what seemed like twenty times until a large commercial truck tire shop correctly diagnosed the problem.

The problem never was evident with the skinny tires and bias plys I had on it before.

How did you do it?

Lower 2, upper 2, gaurdrail, 11, slickrock, 4,5,6....???

I wheel the hell out of my wagon when I am up at telllico so it could have happened anytime while I was up there. But i do rememver being wedged between two rocks at the top of lower 2 and smoking my 37's in the rain:rolleyes: :D

My first guess would be bent rims. I would swap out two tires/rims on the rear and watch it from behind as Haley drives. If you still have the wobble, I would then suspect the axle shafts themselves. I don't believe a bent housing would cause the wobble. Nor would bad bearings.

If it shows up in the brakes, it typically is the axle..

Jack it up, pull the tires and spin the drum.. It will be obvious..

I got discs in the rear. I will rotate the tires and drive it agian. If it does it agian, I guess I will pull the axles and swap rear axle shafts.....crap.

So spin the disks then :flipoff2:

Check it befroe you go to a lot of work that you do not have to..

Do you still have stock rims/tires? Since those are known true, swap those on and see if they wobble.

I second taking off the wheels. If the axles are bent, then the rotors will hang up on the calipers as long as the housing is true. To check the housing, I would say measure the distance inbetween the ends of the housing on the top and the bottom, as well as the front and the rear. I don't know if I explained that correctly, but the idea is that if the lengths are all the same then the housing is straight.

Yulp brother man Wes I got two spares...

I will swap them tomorrow it seems.

I rotated the tires and jacked up the rear end and put it in the 3rd gear and watch the tires wobble like crazy. I cant believe I dont feel more of it on the road just under brakeing i feel it.

I just hope it did not harsh the locker or bearings badly. Becuase about every other rotationg i can hear somthing in there making noise, like a metal to metal sound of a slide or grind kind of noise. So I am willing to bet that the axles are toast.

...crap. I have had all the crap apart a few times so though I am no happy about it doing all this I just hope my locker, bearings, gears where not harmed..

I just wonder how it happened?

crap,

ive bent alot of axles on alot of cars for alot of dumb reasons. i just jack it up, put stands under the axle housing, remove wheels, and have somebody gas it. alot of times the bend is minor enough that you really don't see it by hand turning. give it some gas and it becomes apparent pretty quick.

i've actually grown to enjoy swapping axles. after working with IFS for the last 8 years, it's pretty pleasurable. :)

I try to believe more bent wheels than bent axle .. never seen a Cruiser axles bented .. I'm not sure if is a lucky thing .. but I saw a lots of axles behind V8 and huge tires without problems ..

Please take pics ..

Nope swapped tires front to rear...and still wobble like there is no tomorrow. Will have to tear into them tomorrow night after work...

I'll report back and tell you what I find...

It was hard to tell on the short but the long side was bent, what a pain. Time for some poly axle shafts.

Fixed most of the problem, but I now know after last wheeling trip all 4 of my steel wheels are bent after having the truck in the air and all tires rotating on jack stands. I dont know really know if it is worth trying to fix the bent rims or not. any ideas?

Look around for a real good commercial truck wheel/tire guy. One of my guys bent the pi@# out of some steel wheels on a dually stake body. I went to buy new ones and the tire guy was able to bend 2 out of three back right - the thiord I had to replace - too tweaked. Never had any problems with them after.
