I was reading about the flood in Houston and came across this article about a furniture store in Houston that opened it's doors (two stores) to people displaced by the flood. He is also feeding them with 3 meals a day. I went on and researched a bit more and it turns out this is nothing new for the owner "Mattress Mack".

Gallery Furniture store turns into Houston shelter - CNN

I wanted to donate to some agency to help the relief effort. I chose to send my money directly to Mattress Mack, I used his real name. I feel this money will go directly to aide without management expenses etc coming off the top. Heather donated to a group that is down there rescuing horses. We were watching videos of guys riding up to large pens in water above their knees while on horseback and opening gates releasing the horses and leading them to higher ground. In one county a group of Sheriff's deputies on horseback herded 400 plus head of cattle off a ranch and on to the interstate north to higher ground. I imagine their area is like where I live, more cows than people.

Texas, getting it done! Bless all of you.

Just in case you are at a bar and in need of a pickup line.

It rains solid diamonds on Uranus
Anytime I hear jewelry store or diamond store commercials on the radio, in my mind I replace the word diamond with rock. The thought brings the inflated term of "diamond" back to reality.

I had a weird thing happen the other day. Similar situation - same BS trying to sell me something using fear tactics.

I said "Please put me on your Do Not Call List" after he had finished his initial BS and before I could finish "List" he had put me on some Ballywood/Indian music . . like on hold or something- - but you could tell he did it so that he got the point across he was not happy.

Unbelievable.
If you do not recognize the number or you are not expecting a phone call, don't pick up. If you do pick up, don't say anything.

I kept getting a call about once a month from an unfamiliar number out of Greensboro. I never answered the phone and the caller never left a voicemail. One day at work they called. I was distracted and made the mistake of answering the phone. It was a robot on the other end but it was really hard to tell. The voice was a prerecorded human voice and the robot responded with prerecorded answers depending on your response. I thought I was talking to a real person until I said "**** off" a few times and heard the same prerecorded response twice. I immediately hung up but that wasn't the end. Because the robo caller found a human voice, they proceeded to call me two to three times a day and send me text messages. This happened for about a month before the robo caller gave up and stopped contacting me.

Yea - I try not to, but great story and advice for all.

After about 20 calls, I tend to push to talk to a real person and tell them "please put me on your do not call list" as for a while, the state AGs where really trying to enforce the Federal "do not call lists" and you could scare some of these guys out of calling you if you got a live person.

Its all got a lot worse as of late, though.

Let me add that there are scammers that record your voice and if you ever say "yes" they will use that to approve stuff on your behalf. They will ask you stuff like "are you having a nice day" and then use your recorded voice on the answer to approve a credit check or send you something or worse.

Another thing . . .I saw that VZW is SELLING a new blocking service for scammers. If the telecom's wouldn't have allowed for the masking of numbers for telemarketers, this wouldn't be an issue . . . and no reason for us to have to pay for new blocking services :)

So Andrea was on Facebook last night and came across a post that you hit play and then pause and its supposed to be where you will take your next BIG vacation. We always clash on where to actually go if we do a big vacation and most of ours are centered around family anyway. We have two places we want to go but are holding off to make them good. So we decide to let this thing choose for us and promise that we will do it no matter what even if it is a place one of us wants to go and the other really doesn't. Most of the posts in the comments were Thailand, Egypt, Australia, China, etc...... so what did we get?

I'm fairly sure that Alabama is one of the 8? states I haven't been to and the only southern state. But......... i'm still not going LOL.

I've been talking about a Chevy 5 window with Heather. She got this for the mail box. I am thinking It's a go :)

Hey yall, I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to post in here because I'm not a member but I need some advice. I live in raleigh and while leaving work on capital boulevard my phh busted. I saw the temp gauge skyrocketing so I turned on the heat full blast and pulled into a parking lot and cut off the engine before it got all the way into the red. I know 100% it is the pesky heater hose. Anyway I was wondering if you guys knew of anything i should do other than call a tow truck and deal with it when I get home. I am about 20 minutes grom home and was about to take the exit onto 440 to drive home when the phh broke. I live right near NC State. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Charley

Just kidding, its not an easy job to fix that one the road. You could try filling up with distilled water and seeing how far that gets you depending on how bad your leak is.. small vs blown hose, but for piece of mind just use AAA.... or get AAA if you don't have it.

Then order the kit, fix it, become a member and be part of the greatest club ever :hillbilly:

You can be here if you're not a member @Pancake Donkey ! It's encouraged, but not required.

Tow it. Don't risk driving on a blown coolant hose. You'll fry your engine.

A flat bed would be optimal but putting the T-case in Neutral will allow it to be towed normally.

Does the fact that its a 4x4 effect anything related to towing? As in Does it need to be on a flat bed or can it be towed with 2 wheel on the ground (Sorry, super noob question)

IMHO, flatbed only.

A flat bed would be optimal but putting the T-case in Neutral will allow it to be towed normally.

That would burn up the t-case diff. Shifting the transfer case into neutral disconnects output shaft from the other gears in the case. It doesn't let the rear driveshaft spin independently of the t-case diff.

Very true but not a big deal for such a short tow

And there are those in the 80 section that have flat towed an 80 across the country behind an RV... don't something I would do but from what I remember of the post nothing terrible happened.

But like I said flat bed would be optimal.

EDIT: just re-read one of the posts and the one I was thinking of they pulled the DS for the x-country trip.
