Know a bit, never owned one though. Jason Traylor did.

So, we want a truck. Reliability, extended or quad cab, automatic, 4x4, diesel are the requirements. Debating between a 1995-1997 Ford 250/350 and a 2003-2007 Dodge 2500/3500. I like the Ford because it's got that classic look but the Dodge is almost a decade newer and Jonathan Ward seems to love it.

I love the look of the f250/350 of those year, and The Rock Solid but they're priced High. Personally I'd take the Ford over the Dodge but that's just me I think you'll be fine with either vehicle they're both excellent diesels. It really comes down to price and condition at the time of purchase.

There is a huge difference in the years between those two. Personally I think the OBS for is the second best looking truck ever just after a quad cab square body.

Really for rock steady reliability you would want a manual unless you are talking an Allison on a Chevy.

Comes down to price really. Those dodges do have their electronic, sensor, issues but the OBS fords arent immune either. Not that either are deal breakers. If you aren't looking to up the power at all you may want to look for the earlier year OBS years with the 7.3 IDI and ATS turbo kit. One Styling, just about the exact same power output and the simplicity of a mechanical diesel.

Anyone saw the F1 race this morning from the U.K.? Hamilton did a serious spanking, Ferrari pushed tires too hard. Great race

Anyone know anything about OBS Fords? Anyone own one?

Why restricting yourself to OBS? The superduties are much better in looks and performance, IMHO.

^^

X2 Market prices are hyper-inflated right now.

@GLTHFJ60 - going to have to disagree on looks. Performance isn't really a factor. What's your opinion on the 2000s trucks or what made you choose a Ford over others?

Caution to everyone: strong opinions abound. Don't get offended by what I'm saying here if you own something I don't like. It's my opinion.

Cummins is the predominant engine, but not without flaws. Dodge is the worst body/frame. Dodge transmissions are hit or miss. Ford is the best body/frame, has the best manual transmissions, some flawed engines, but can be made reliable. Ford superduty with a 7.3/manual transmission, or a Chevy with a lbz duramax, are the best combo of body/frame/engine/transmission that can be bought ready to go. After lbz, there are issues to look out for.

I chose a Ford because I think they look the best, have the best manual transmission, and the 6.0 can be made reliable with a few key fixes.

^^Pretty much sums up everything for the last 30 years with all major American full size trucks :)

Sold the Suburban yesterday.... wish I could have kept it, but not really having a place to store it and lack of time to really do all the things to it I wanted to made it just an ornament at the time. It still drove fine but with the land cruiser now here its driving time was also cut down. Sold it to a young kid with a large family, he was stoked at all the time I had put into rehabbing the interior and chasing down fluid leaks.

It was hard letting it go but not nearly as hard as putting the 1 ton axles in the rear of it. Just me and him having to hoist a Dana front and 14BFF rear into the rear deck of the burb that sits at 4 1/2 feet tall. Not sure the exact weight of the 14B but GM lists it at 586lbs with fluid. Well i'm still walking around today so I guess i'm not too old yet. LOL :meh:

Anyway the square body burbs and crew cabs are still my favorite body style of any truck or suv ever so I can see myself getting another and doing the 6bt swap thing to make a hauler for the future boat the :princess: wants to get. Hell i've had 3 square bodies and one OBS now so why not.
