I registered a 5x8 utility trailer at the DMV last week.....I thought my bill was kindnof high but don't DARE to step out of line with the normally nasty people at the DMV. So I got back to work and looked and they had the appraised value at $8300. You can buy the trailer new at Lowes for $699.00....and $599.00 when it goes on sale. I had to call the property tax dispute people and they said I should receive a refund in 45 days. The lady I spoke to said they always have issues with trailer appraisals. Just an FYI. The lady I spoke to took care of everything over the phone. I am going to call back in a week to verify.

@mtweller 's incident was enough to make me go get two new tires in the trailer and move my best of existing to spare location........it didnt like that!
Guess im in for one more tire and glad that didnt fail loaded with stone. But this tire showed no signs of damage when removed 4 weeks ago and tread was good. Its a passenger car tire too and 3-5 years old. Sun/heat exposure?

I have been looking at trailers lately and a lot of newer trailers are using 16" rims. The theory is that they are bigger, wider and taller, so handle heat better. They also have better load ratings as well.
Not sure if I can get the 16 inch in 5 lug though

I will try to find the name of it but there was a place down in thomasville selling load rated wheel/tire combos for the same price as most places sell tires.

Finally!!! After fighting with Spartanburg County since January I finally got my Agriculture status back regarding my property taxes. Went from $ 1,572.65 back down to $21.25 annually on two pieces
of property totaling 12 acres. Almost totally wooded.
Something else cool I found is that because the five acres the house sits on is physically connected to both other parcels that are now back to being Ag, I can get Ag on all but 1 acre that the house sits on, so I can bring that property's taxes down significantly as well. Already back under $725.00 annually.

Love battle with any form of government, winning is icing on the cake.
Oh yea they penalized me (included in the $ 21.25) $2.77 for being late on the payment. They originally told me to pay the full amount and they would refund the difference if I goot my Ag back. Fat chance.

Thanks Jamie, never dreamed it would go on this long. I even went and got a Federal and State Farm# and the county sill argued with me.
The thing is, had I let this go, for even one year I'd have been screwed going forward to further tax years. While in the county office I heard a couple 81 and 79 years old talking with the county employees (2). They own a small farm that has a carriage house with a small bunkhouse/apartment. A local woman, their age and life long friend, lost her husband and was down on her luck and in failing health. They took her in, set up the carriage house for her and neighbors all chipped in an brought her meals etc. Real community at work.
The County took this as an opportunity to tax said carriage house and the acre it sits on as a rental unit.

Just a little more back ground on my dealings with the County. When we bought this place there was a deal made that when our neighbor got clear of some old hospital bills from his past we would transfer two acres to him. In the process of doing this
1. The surveyor cut part of the two acres out of the 5 acres the house sits on, this parcel has a mortgage. Any idiot involved in land transfer for more than a day or two knows
A. You can not do this without agreement of both owner and mortgage holder.
B. You do a title search which would show said mortgage DUH!
2. Surveyor gave said drawing to lawyer who FILED it with the County
3. County filed it and changed my property lines with no signature from us or sign off from the bank
I found all this out when I went to sit down with Lawyer, saw plat for the first time and asked the lawyer why he did not do a tittle search.
I went to the County and asked why they had legally changed my property lines with no official paper work with our signatures. It gets better. Heather's name is on the property with the house, both our names are on the other pieces of property. The County would not transfer the property back because the names on the deeds have to be exactly the same. They told me I had to have my name put on the property with the mortgage and then they could do the transfer.
I about lost my mind, but kept cool. I informed them that THEY are the party the screwed the pooch and transferred land without proper paper work. I informed them that there are plenty of lawyers out there that would LOVE to take on the county on a case like this and that they indeed would be moving out of my newly acquired buildings. I told the guy, "Fix it and do it before I get antsy and go lawyer hunting for the hell of it" Two days and all was back to as it was.

Sun exposure can do that. Looks like the tire had some dry rot in it, maybe when it was pulled 4-5 years ago? Dry rotting is accelerated when in the sun and when the tire is not driven on IIRC.

Makes sense.... But I pulled it from service the week after hurricane creek trip. So 4-6 weeks ago and tossed it front as the spare. Was leaving for work yesterday and saw the ragged top. Totally delaminating from the core. Belts and all.
