hi tony, from the previous posts it seems that the pre'16 has the relay... unfortunately the 16' up apparently do not have your traditional relay anymore... but again in a previous post the clicking sound on the latest gen seems to be coming from the right side of the dash wherein the pre 16's it would seem to be coming from the left side f the dash...

It wouldn’t surprise me if toyota went to a “body control module” that controls a ton of light (and other) functions all in one place. Many manufacturers are doing this.

IF this is true...
The good news is this mod probably wouldn’t require swapping out any hardware.. the bad news is you need to find someone to crack the firmware and program what you want.

Remember when i got a BMW and thought this was the greatest feature ever. Along with their max ac button that immediately went lowest temp, recirc, and full blast blower motor

Just installed my smarttap on my 2009 LX570.

2 10mm bolts, removed bottom panel, removed mid panel and then easily can reach the relay, unclipped and zip tied new on in and done.

Love it!

another one for the pre 2016's.... really hope someone discovers how it can be done to the '16 up lc's... still wanted....someone who can discover how the passing signal can be programmed/activated on 2016 up lc's please chime in

I'm an auto journalist I swear I haven't driven a car in about 3 years that hasn't had the 1 touch 3 signal. Heck last week I drove a Honda Fit that had it. So it was very annoying to me that both my 2009 -- lexus vehicles did not do this. Now they do.

But it really surprises me a 2016 doesn't! Anyone know if the 17/18 are changed? I'll probably upgrade at some point but geez I like this feature.

Did you also upgrade the turn signal bulbs to LEDs at the same time?

Did anyone have to remove the knee airbag to get to get to the relay? Although I've done some before, airbag removal scares me and I'd rather not have to remove it.

Is mid panel same as switch panel? Hows it held in? Clips?

No, it's simple to get to. A 5-10 min job, max.
Installed smart tap this weekend on my 15 LC. However I spent 5-10 minutes just on cursing, getting my hand unstuck twice, drawing blood, and trying to unplug the original relay. I rarely curse or scream but I did both. Other than that, maybe 15 minutes actual productive time. Just not much clearance and my hands got in the way, making it a blind, 2 handed operation. Wish I'd had a head lamp because there was no way to hold a flashlight or a spot to put a work light. In spite of all that, got it in, left the old relay in place and zip tied the new one (cable) to another cable in the vicinity. Not hard but it might test your patience. I wear a L glove and if your hands are bigger than that, good luck.

The extra functions are great. Definitely worth doing imo.

To answer a question posed - the Smart Tap works brilliantly in a 2015 Land Cruiser and is one of my favorite mods, along with my LED blinkers.

Shortly after starting the LC today I got the initializing message. Never disconnected the battery but wondering if it could be related to the smart tap module. Anybody else run into this after installing smart tap?

I really hope our smart tap bros would post on the thread for the 2016 and below smart tap install thread... yes there is
This one is for 2016 up where there is, as far as most know, no relay... we are hoping someone could break the code f the turn signal module for the passing signal feature...the 2018 Tacoma's and tundras have it... thanks bros

My 2019 LX570 had it, if so it stands to reason that the LC should have the same capabilities, I definitely wish that this new LC had it. Here is a list showing the options that can be changed by the dealer free of charge on the LX570.

No option in LC. I just bought 21LC and was making changes with techstream. Even there, there is no option to program it.
