Hey guys, I need some advice and I figure what better group to turn to!

I am sick of gas stations charging for air and I want my own system on my truck. I thought about just getting a CO2 tank, but there is no where to fill them around where I live. So I have decided to go with a compressor and a tank.

I have plenty of room to mount the tank under the back end of the FJC, so that I am not worried about. However, I do need some advice on what type of compressor to get. I want to be able to run air tools so that when I swap my wheels I can use the impact wrench.

Any help, advice, etc. would be appreciated!

I have a York compressor / storage tank on my 40 that is capable of running air tools and airing up on the trails. Also works my front and rear ARB lockers.

I don't have any complaints and would recommend it.

York seems to be a popular solution from what I've read / heard / seen...

I also have a York setup and run air tools and ARB lockers. Have a 3 gal tank under the back of my 40.

York is one of the only automotive comressors that has it's own crankcase oil and does not use the coolant for lubrication. Yorks are large but easy to mount either vertically or horizontally. Many mounting options. You will need an idler pully on the belt to tension it.

problem is there is probably no way to add a york to a fjc. You might look into some onboard air options in the outfitting thread. Electric is the easiest way to go and there are some pretty nice electric compressors out there. And as long as you have a fairly big tank it would work for air tools. I've got a 3 gallon pancake compressor that is shot. Your welcome to it. for the parts. Regulator, tank etc....

You can see Capt's tanks here.:D

I need to step up my Tellico trail running......... 4, 5, and 6 are just silly easy now with the 37's; I just can't fear body damage on the wagon, I know that is what lies ahead on the more advanced trails

I drove Alan's 40 all the way up School Bus witnout a nick or scrape We also didn't winch. Bruce's truck laid over it's side and took out some glass. Todd's truck busted a rear axle.

I would like to think this was due to my superb offroad driving skills, however, I strongly suspect it was the tenacity of Alan's 40.

It was those tires. Sticky, very sticky.

Thanks Marshall, I think I'll take you up on that offer. Are you coming to Cullowhee?

I am leaning towards an electric compressor. Any suggestions on brand from anyone?

Not if you run it without any shocks or brakes.:flipoff2:

I'm pretty sure I will be at Cullowhee this next time. The fall colors up there are going to be really nice.

They make some pretty sick electric compressor now a days.
Check out the low rider crowd's choices. Amazing.
I use a Thomas compressor known as Big Red. It powers
my ARB locker and airs up my tires. I also use a 3 gallon tank
mounted at the rear under the 40 with an outlet at the bumper with
a quick connect. With the tank the ARB will not
even turn on with a full days use. It takes a LOT of ARB
off/ons to exhaust a 3 gallon tank. :grinpimp:
Not nearly as fast as a York, but, it has been very dependable.

So you have a Thomas -and- ARB compressor on Gundy David?

Well, I went with a ViAir system. I won't need your tank Marshall, but thanks for the offer. The system is all inclusive and that way I can just slap it in and be done!

thanks for the help guys!
