I think I went overboard running the MaxLine RapidAir compressor tubing. I use 3 out of the 8 drops I’ve installed regularly. Thing is, when I need to get some air on any of the other 5, having it there will be worth it. I’m still using the 50’ hose I had from 1995 so unless it breaks, it is like an old habit. I hate that there is a pile of hose on the floor but… old habits die hard (as they say)

My new shop already had RapidAir installed. Outlets scattered all around are great but outlets with retractable hose reels are even better. Installed the first one from my old shop soon after I got here but I always seemed to be doing something at the limit of the hose so recently installed a second reel on other side of shop. Now I need one for outside. With the size of your shop, you'd really benefit from a couple or more.

I like the reels up high an out of the way. The one by the door is front center of shop and given door/cabinets/need for solid mount point it pretty much had to go where it is. Also had to run some additional line up an over roll up door to left. A little higher than I would normally put it but didn't want it obstructing the door. Main thing is up where you're not going to bang your head, walk into it or hit it with a piece of equipment.

And normally I would face in towards the work area but that flat face with the hinges above is a rotating beam hoist and I didn't want to interfere with that or get any more involved with the pluming.

I have a reel mounted on the ceiling of my garage and it is set so I can drag the hose out either overhead door and it parks with the hose end just above my head so I don't whack my head on it every time I walk by.

I also have a loose 50 ft extension hose in case I need to reach all the way to the curb at the end of my driveway.

I use one in the middle of the shop that can reach front and back, the second is mounted close to the doors and can be used outside too. A third one is mounted to a rolling cabinet. They reduce the clutter in the work areas.

Need help on electric radiant heaters

Almost done with wiring the walls. Should be done with this in hour or so then will staple the loose wires.

Now I’m going to pull wire for some a future compressor, lift and figured better plan on radiant heat in the work area where I’ll place corner desk and work benches around it for working on things not attached to a rig.

Although I’ve looked at some that I could Mount about a window I’d be concerned about heat loss. Anyone have experience with any heaters of this nature? The pic is picture where all the magic or tons of cussing and frustration will occur. I’m dealing with 23x20 corner with 12’ ceiling.

I’m open to all ideas to heat my work space!

A few things I’ve learned from wiring my own shop

1. If you try and use a section already cut to link outlets it’s going to be 6”-12” too short, usually the longer section where you’re taking it up and around a window.

2. If there is board lying anywhere on the floor in shop when your on/off the ladder pulling wire it’s going to catch the corner of it.

3. If you’re close to wall pulling wire from double gang box with one wire present, it’s going to get caught on the wire hanging out of box.

4. I should put my tool belt on window sill, it’s where I always find the tool I need that’s not in my belt. Usually when on the ladder.

5. The wire is inherently meant to get kinked especially when pulling through drilled hole of course it kinks at the bottom of the ladder somewhere.

6.The wire unspooler thing is awesome, especially at getting caught up, again when at top of the ladder.

However the satisfaction of doing all this and learning how to do it is way better than paying someone.

I actually do know where it was today, I moved it off wall and set against ladder. I immediately thought to myself how stupid that was cause I was just about to move the ladder!

Good on you Jon. If you want some real fun though, try pulling metal clad cable; fun, fun, not. FWIW I go to great lengths when wiring to not precut anything - no pun intended.

Anyone else hot?

Daughter off to school in Hawaii, shop put on back burner while she was here so I could spend all the time I could with her.

Back to work, moved quite a few boxes/containers of cruiser parts from shop to barn after I purchased more shelving from Northern Tool. Ordered gooseneck lights for the front which should be here tomorrow. Buddy who is electrician coming Tuesday to help finish up wiring on exterior walls than spray foam insulators coming towards end of the week. They will do all the ceilings and exterior walls. After experiencing what the foam insulation does I’m pretty excited to have it in shop.

Heat warning here at farm today with heat index 110-115. Normally I could care less but I stopped at 1 to drink some water in the AC. I was completely drenched from head to toe. Fresh change of clothes, well hydrated and I’m off to continue the progress.

Wiring ceiling above work area for two radiant heaters. Also wiring for compressor and Split unit for office upstairs. Also finishing all the receptacles I was too lazy to finish last time I worked some.

Attempts to get Bermuda around the barn to help with erosion have been pretty frustrating. Called sod company I was suppose to be 3-6 weeks out in First of May knowing it was too hot right now and now we have pushed it to September. Frankly I’m tired of moving dirt back to its original spot just so why rain we get will wash it off.

Finally after going into analysis paralysis I’ve figured out what I’m doing for heat in corner of shop.

Putting Infratech 6000w heaters above each window. They cover 11’x11’ area and I have option to use one or both elements on each unit. Wires pulled even though I don’t have the units with foam insulator’s coming next week exterior walls are close to being done.

New exterior lights installed today, small hiccup with garage door on right. It’s stuck and unwound up top but will get fixed.

Gonna sheet rock the back 25% of the shop in next 3-4 months. This will provide office, bathroom and closet where I can put gunsafe so my guns will be safe.

That without question has been the hardest sub to nail down. Hopefully local guy who works for city but does Sheetrock on Friday, Saturday and Sunday pans out. Lives three miles to south. Use to sheet rock for a living and last night when looking at shop he said “this doesn’t scare me” not sure what to think about that….

Nowadays, sheetrock does scare me…I can’t believe how heavy those sheets have become in the last two years. As for that garage door, this same thing happened to my 18’ door. When I released the garage door opener shaft from the motor coupling it was like a lathe sheering the steel tube with one of the loosened lock bolts. Had to call the door guy who changed the rod in the roller spring… then, 6 3/4 turns to reset the tension and $324.00. 8 weeks old they did not honor any install warranty.

I had to work all day today but my buddy I grew up with who does electrical work came up and finished what they could.

We’re ready for insulation next week. It’s progress!
