Door fixed too I see 👍🏻
For being pretty remote I got a great guy who installed them. Texted him this morning and he made it out here on his way from from job in okc, tipped him $30 on his $170 bill and he wanted to put it towards some parts and I told him that wasn’t reason I gave it to him.

That looks like a beacon of dreams that grew out of shear determination…. Beautiful ….like the monolith in that scene from 2001: A Space Odessey
That is a poster for the wall !
I’m the last guy who wants material things cause I could care less what others think. I’ve always told the kids if it were all gone tomorrow and all we had was family I’d be more than fine.

I am so awestruck looking at the shop cause I’ve never even had a new home. It’s definitely a dream come true, but lots more to do before my dream is complete. Appreciate your kind words

With my undiagnosed ADHD ideas are plentiful. Wife got little mad this morning as she was outside watching the ducklings waiting on her coffee, well I forgot about it while I was thinking shop stuff. Instead of getting her coffee, I took a shower which was the wrong thing to do apparently. The reality of the office upstairs being a living room for us for 8-9 months as we build is weighing heavily on its build. Little things like what instant water heater in the bathroom is best, small heater is also going to be inside bathroom. Wife wants some kind of pilates thing in a corner so having to plan on the appropriate heat for that (like the old Soloflex's I question how much she will use whatever it is).

Sheet rocker came back out two nights ago with the hangar. Planning on starting sheetrock 48" from the floor so I can put some wood siding similar to what you used. I should be able to pull that trigger in 3-4 weeks. I think this will look better but provide for better wear and tear with tool boxes. I keep forgetting about the interior doors I need and really need to focus on that soon.

Today was planning on grading the dirty around shop for the 5 or 6th time due to rain. Heat index 107 right now and I am battling some poison ivy after not being careful enough while pulling vines off tree's last week. I'm not a fan of poison ivy and heat and its getting hot enough today not sure soaking in swimming pond is going to help much.

So, today not getting much done but searching mud for things when my thought process isn't diverted to someone's cool build threads...

This is like "deja vu all over again" for me. When we built the barndominium we're currently living in (1,100 sq. ft. in one end of the shop building), that's exactly what we said/thought; 9 months tops. Five years later, we're still living it in, though we see the light at the end of the tunnel now and might be in our real house by the end of the year. Your situation won't be as bad as ours, but the point is, building tends to take longer than you think and there are many things that can extend that time but few to none that will shorten it. So from my hindsight, yeah, you need to consider that you may be living in the shop longer than you think and build it out/equip it accordingly.

FWIW, we went with a quality Rinnai tankless water heater (propane) for our apartment/barndo that cost more than others but has worked super well and been 100% reliable; I will buy more like it for the big house.

My wife had to have a free-standing punching bag in our small space; I have never seen her use it yet. :)

To top it all off, I also have undiagnosed ADHD. When I was in elementary school, there wasn't even a name for it, but I was such a "fidgety kid" that my teacher and parents had me in some kind of therapy/PT for it. Fast forward to when two of my kids were diagnosed with it, I realized "hey, I have all of those symptoms too!".

In any event, all best wishes for your continuing shop build-out and house build. Love seeing your progress.

I'm trying to be optimistic here!!!! Ha

With living room upstairs and toilet downstairs we have some important area's covered. My parents have older but clean 5th wheel on the farm they have hardly used over last 5 years. they bought it used but Mom has pretty high standards and OCD with cleaning so it's really not that bad. We have 50 amp plug for it. Drains in shop can accommodate the grey water from a shower/sink in the trailer and we have two water lines in shop which should work well.

I like to think through building the shop and Mom and Dad's house we have good set of subs with some integrity, minus the framers, dirt work and concrete!. We have replacements for the initial crews so it will go much more smooth this time.

As long as we can step out of the shop and see something happening we will be ecstatic. I am hoping that with the foam insulation we will be pretty comfortable inside. Last night we sat in front of the shop waiting for the lights to come on since I put photosensors on them. Wife had great idea about getting the reclining lawn chairs out so we could chill out. Before I could get them out of the barn we had our first light come one so we stood like little kids waiting for a xmas tree to light up.

I too was the kid who couldn't sit still and teachers wanted me evaluated but Mom and Dad wouldn't do it. I can't tell you how many times I have sat with kids and a parent describing their kids wanting meds while in my head I am like " so what's the problem?" I have prescribed meds when really needed after thorough eval but way too many kids take those things.

We did spray foam on the interior of the metal building shell, and completely filled all of the 2x4 interior walls of the apartment inside, and it is the greatest thing ever. Very comfortable inside, and our electric bill is low, even this summer with the long string of 100+ degree days we've been having this year.

Heat index 108 as I write this. It sure can't hurt! the upstairs office is already insulated, I was very surprised how good it was for sound deafening also. I am a believer for sure.

Going back to the lift the fella I called regarding a used lift went silent when I didn't jump at his initial offerings. So have $100 deposit on black Rotary 10k until I can get the sheet rockers out of there. The lift will be so nice as long as I can find all my tools scattered around property to utilize it.

I’m in the same club as you two. When I was a kid they said “ he’s just 200% boy”. Rainy days were my worst days. I couldn’t go outside and burn off all of my energy, so I tormented my two younger sisters and stayed in trouble for it. When my daughter was diagnosed with ADHD, I also had my “ ahah” moment. I couldn’t focus on my school work, so my grades suffered. As did my education. The teacher’s always described me as an “under performer”.

I am enjoying your shop build very much!

Ya know I’m starting to see a pattern here between ADD and cruisers…

Geez…..I went to Catholic school starting in the late 1950’s…also labeled as an under performer and love Land Cruisers…
if A=B and B=C then A=C. So therefore, any Land Cruiser guy is an under performer?

I was so bored in elementary school, that I would sit and twist my hair by rubbing a finger in circles on my scalp, until i wore bloody bald spots. That's what landed me in whatever passed for counseling/therapy in a small-town Missouri elementary school in the early 60's. It actually helped when my 1st and 2nd grade teachers started giving me more challenging assignments that took more focus and effort to complete.

Since we’re tellin’
we moved to Hollywood Fla in 1961 I was 8…. The school wanted my parents to allow speech therapy since I did not pronounce the words
lilac and Lily with a long drawn Southern drawl. 🤦🏽

This won’t hurt the inside temps

This looks like a department store being built …. Congratulations it is gorgeous

Guys had to hold off today finishing the upper portion due to the heat. I actually mentioned to them a couple days ago to be safe as I wasn’t in a hurry (although I’m sure they want to finish and move on). Heat indices between 110-115 all this week.
Amazing how immediate the sound deafening is with this foam. Left early this morning so not sure how much cooler it is today.

When my pole barn was sprayed, the difference just in the steel roof and the rain was substantially quiet…..sorry for that heat

I’ve only been in shop a couple times when it rained and it was definitely loud!
