Ceramic coat is an option , Canadian Gearhead is very happy with his on the 4th gen 4runner he built. It's durable and supposedly makes it easier to wash.

I'm thinking about getting mine painted/coated as white is a bit...boring: but it's super expensive. With no real benefits besides aesthetics. I'd rather put that 10k into a lift and tires, armour, and DT headers.

Ceramic won't make the existing paint look any better though.

Have you considered a wrap for yours? Can be done for way less than the 10k. Scratch a panel, peel it off and replace.

You picked a utilitarian rig used across the planet to last through every environment and condition known to man, and now you want it to look pretty? Seems contradictory. Honestly the people off-roading their trucks with perfect paint conditions just seem stressed out anytime a bush sticks out into the trail. A ugly rig is a fun rig. Save your money for a 250/300 series if you want pretty.

This. I parted out all the aftermarket parts and sold my 18' GX460 w/40K miles on it a few years ago to buy my 05' 100 Series with 200K miles. Im much happier now, taking the GX off road was way to stressful. Every time I heard a stick run down the paint it was nails on a chalk board. It would be the same thing if I put $15K-$20K into a paint job for the 100........maybe worse

Be honest...

You just like that your cruiser friends don't make fun of you driving GX anymore.

Step back an truly consider where you are putting your money. If money is no object, then whatever. But if it means something to you, keep in mind what you're getting in the end. Most importantly to all of this: RUST NEVER SLEEPS! it can be hidden, ground, cut out, whatever. It will come back in the area where it was removed. I may be called out on that belief, but i've seen enough jobs where it shows up again to not want to go all in on it. I'm not saying I wouldn't do some bodywork. I just wouldn't put the money into a full quality respray. To me, basic body repair and some paint blending of worked areas sounds proper if you want to clean up the look.

The undercarriage advice given in other posts is great. If there's a considerable amount of rust there, the body is least of your worries.

Man I wish I had Land Cruiser friends lol

To be honest I had really hoped that it would grow on me and it just never did. The Lexus spindle grill is hideous and the hvac controls in the head unit really wore on me. I know the head unit in the 100 is horrible as well but its just more acceptable on something 13 years older lol
