Got my oil changed and with the filter it took 6.5 qts doesnt sound right......someone clue me in.

Dented or after market oil pan?

Don't overfill!

Did you run the engine a little to fill the oil canister and then let it settle? (Depending on which engine and setup you have, this can effect you by about a quart).

F with just a fram filter ph8a and dunno pressure is showing good........

Post up a picture of your dipstick and how it is seated into the guide tube on the side of the engine block.

Also, on the dipstick, it should have a part number on the end that is in the engine oil. What is that part number?

DIPSTICK-

1958-1/72

1/72-9/77

Looks like there are two different dipsticks for F engines.

Also, if you have a remote spin on oil filter bracketed to the fender (po mod), a spinon that sits pointed down mounted to the manifold, a cannister/element oil filter bracketed to the intake manifold or the open-side down filter that sits on the p/s block, you will affect the amount to fill to a given fill line.

I've had all setups at one time in my F engines.

About 5 years ago I assembled a 2f engine out of 2 different engines
and replaced the f in my 65 fj45lv. About a month or 2 ago I changed
the oil and it read full at 6 quarts. I remembered reading on mud that
it should take about 8 quarts so I started comparing with another
2f. The dipsticks looked to be the same length but the tube it goes
into was about 1 inch shorter on the pieced together engine. I added
2 more quarts and the level came up to read about 1 inch above full.
I guess you can run these engines a couple of quarts low for a while
but of course I don't recommend it.

I'm pretty sure you can drive them low on oil for a long time with no damage. As long as you can't hear the lifters you are okay, not that I would ever let my truck get low on oil.

fj40 oil pan ...

comes in two types, both for the f engine, as i know them. one way to tell is to look at the bottom of the oil pan, if the lower lobe is about half of the bottom, then less than 8 quarts, if the oil pan looks big most of the way across the bottom, then you have a 8 plus quart capacity.

either way, like the other guy said, if the dip stick says full, then stop.

since you appear to have a fj40-77 with f engine, and 8 minus, i'd suspect that you have the lower capacity oil pan. Post up a picture...

the FJ is tore down at the moment lol stupid intake gasket I will get a pic of it this week sometime.
