So I was driving on the freeway last night when I glanced at the gauges and noticed that my oil pressure was reading 0 on the cluster. No movement at all. So I freaked out, pulled off the road and checked the oil. Showed full, about 3 weeks post oil change so it's fresh. Engine sounded good, temps were good so I limped it home worried something was up. Searched and found some threads about broken or loose wires on the sender so i checked it. Boom, one of the wires was off. re-attached the wire, gauge is back to working but it seemed really loose and there is some corrosion on the wire and the sending unit from what I could tell.

I couldn't tell how difficult it would be to replace the wiring harness and it looked like it was part# 82221-60020 for the harness and # 89491-60010 for the sending unit. Just worried that it will keep happening now that the connector is so loose.

Both of these parts are still available from Toyota. The harness runs $48.47 and the Oil Pressure Sensor is $340.12 from our website at
www.oemgenuineparts.com and if you use the Promotion Code CRUISER1 you can take an additional 5% off. Look around first and see if any forum members have these laying around. You may be able to find them at better prices.

That must be a very special oil pressure sensor. :)

You would be better off with a 83520-60011.;)

He would need to monkey with a new harness in this case in any event, as he would be attempting to connect it to a new oil level sensor instead of a new oil pressure sending unit.:)

These sensors price from over $150.00 and up no matter what the Toyota model. Just for grins, I looked one up for the old Previa Van and it lists for over $500.00. Like I said, look around. There seems to be a very knowledgeable group of Land Cruiser enthusiasts here who may have alternatives. I'm not here to rip anyone off.

I just bought my first cruiser, 96 FZJ80, dirt cheap because it was not showing any oil pressure. Noticed the wire hanging loose and took a chance.

I(for now) just jury-rigged it with a spliced in wire for <$1. It has worked the entire time I have owned the truck, but that is only about 1 month. Admittedly, I probably won't mess with this again until it gives me problems...maybe I'm just cheap and lazy.

Of course, Page Toyota's suggestion of a new sender and harness is the best solution. I went with the can I make it work in 15 mins solution. Only follow my path at your own peril.

The sensor number listed in post #1 is an engine oil LEVEL sensor, not an oil pressure sender. Your price for the level sensor is quite reasonable, it is not what he needs however.

With the correct connector and enough monkey, likely could get them connected?:hillbilly:

Thanks for the correction on the part number Dan. Does anybody know how difficult these would be to replace the oil pressure sender and wiring harness?

20 minutes with a smoke break.

If reconnecting made it work, so the sensor is good, why would you replace it? Put a new connector in the wire and drive happy!

Yup. Or, use the pliers on your Leatherman and squeeze the existing terminal a bit :hillbilly:

I was told the wiring harness was no longer available and I paid a mud member to make one for me. I would be curious to know if that was the case now.

At any rate, the wire clip that clips to the little round peg on the sending unit does seem suspect to me given how low it is on the motor and how much road gunk gets up there. I tried to clean mine up but there were broken wires and there were some other weird connectors that did something as a noise filter for the radio and it also clips to the AC compressor. Someone smarter than I am that has more experience with electrical parts could probably build their own.

Yep, ifin the wire is still attached to the connector, on some we have seen it fell off.

@PageToyota oil pressure sending unit 83520-60011 lists as $61.01 on toyota parts overstock and I can usually get it a few bucks cheaper from my parts guys at the dealership. You shouldn't second guess @cruiserdan when it comes to parts or cruisers 9.5/10 times you'll be fighting a losing battle. You probably looked up the Oil LEVEL sensor unit and harness. Big difference between the 2 and the Oil Pressure Sending unit is probably fine unless the little ground tab rusted off like mine did or its like my Sequoia sending unit and doesn't work for crap

so at risk of necroposting, where is the best place to get the right connectors and pins for our Toyota trucks? On my oil sending unit wiring harness, one of the wires broke off from the pin in the connector.

I know how to take the pins/wires out of the connector, and I've taken the connector apart, but my local dealer doesn't carry the pieces/parts...only the full harness. I've been searching online and there are a ton of different pin sizes/types. In this case I just went ahead and ordered the new harness, but only because I got tired of looking.

For the future, it would be great to have a reliable place to go for these pieces parts, as electrical issues happen, especially as our trucks age.

Kinda blessed by being a pack rat, have a collection of harness, from part outs, replacements, etc. When possible prefer to use the proper color, parts, harvested from the collection.

The oil pressure connector is easy, it's the same going way back. Coolerman has them, along with some wire colors, etc. Cruiser Wiring

Have used a couple of sites that sell connectors from the manufacturers, don't recall the names, but amazon, rockauto, etc, have common ones.
