-Due to the recent threads about pressure and the importance of a good connection to sending unit. I pulled the cap this evening off mine to clean the connection. I was unable to catch where the spade connector was placed; is it the other spade or the circular pin on the middle of the unit?
-I decided to guess and put it on the other spade. The gauge read off the scale to the high side.
-So i moved it to the pin. In response the needle goes off the scale in the low side, only rising ever slightly with rpm increase.
Prior to the cleaning, it always read 2/3. Now I know the gauge is highly inaccurate, but it won't even register on the scale, rather the movements take place under the "L".
What happened?

Snap, that did not show up in the search...I seem to have a combination of both. Good thing I have a spare cluster:bounce:

Your gauge is toast. I learned the hard way also. Find yourself a new gauge or shop around on the classifieds and find a used one as I did.

Throw it away and install a mechanical one.

X3.......I learned the hard way also.

Sure enough, the minute I put the terminals spade to spade, the gauge fried. Popped in the spare and it all works well.
What would I do without mud?
It seems that when it gets crossed, the metal strip inside gets bent out of whack or something...
