The threads are in the smaller stepped down portion. The threads end up cut a little beyond the first oil hole, because that's the shape of the tap. The plug is measured and threaded into the block just far enough to get to the first oil hole, but not cover it significantly. If the plug won't go in far enough, then run the tap in some more. If it is tapped a little too far and the plug easily goes in too deep, then add a couple wraps of yellow teflon tape to seal and tighten up the interference fit between plug & hole.The 1/2" pipe thread plug .... When tapping this, do the thread stop at the step down portion and is this small amount of metal enough threads? Or does that plug go deeper into the block a bit?
