As some know I am changing my oil and the PO had "gooked" up the oil pan plug with Permatex and a Toyota gasket. I removed the plug and Viola! there is a dent at the six o'clock position where the gasket goes. I am planning on using JB weld to level the dent out. Is there a better product or solution to what I am about to do? This is the first photo, I have since cleaned it up.

Take a small flat head screw driver , and gently poke at that " dent" in the 6 o'clock position . see if its solid metal or not

it may be a Kerf , like a groove & what your seeing is old permatex filling it in

i have seen more then one 2F oil pan with a factory drain plug kerf groove in them

I think that is factory, mine has the same, leaked. Put JB weld on it 13 years ago and it doesn’t leak any more. I have no idea why it’s that way.

My Remedy for what i see as a factory design flaw , I Double up 2 Plug gaskets , then wrap threads in a MED.-thick layer of teflon tape , this method has given me a Leak & drip free oil pan drain plug KERF ever since

i had to look hard , but finally found the right archive , This is my 2F drain pan , & it Does have the factory Kerf also

Mine was the same. I think I read here on mud it was from over-tightening the bolt. I let drain over-night, cleaned the bolt and hole with brake cleaner, RTV around a fiber gasket, cure, fill. No leaks.

Throw a couple of layers of spot welds on there, grind it smooth, and never worry about it again. Easy peasy.

I am going to try silver solder for plumbing and a file then the JB Weld if the silver solder doesnt work..
