I replaced my wires and plugs this afternoon(Courtesy of Dan) and as I pulled them out #s 1 and 6 were fine, but #s2-5 had oil on them, the worst being #4 where oil had cooked enough to turn gelatinous above the metal washer.

I replaced the wires, plugs rotr and diz as an initial answer to my truck not running. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=30753

Why would the oil be on the plugs?

Your sig show 119k. Is that how many miles you have on it?

Does it smoke when you accelerate?
Does it smoke when you let off the gas?

May need a friend to follow you.

Enough oil can come from worn rings or worn valve guides to foul a spark plug.

Do a dry then wet compression test and let us know the results. We should be able to help your further figure this out.

Yes those are the miles. The only time I've noticed smoke is after it sitting for a few days and then only on start up. I'll look into the compression tests and get back.

Thanks.

Spark plug tube seals

It is the spark plug tube seals. This is under the assumption that the oil was all over the outside of the plugs. The spark plug tube seals are replaced as part of the valve cover gasket, now go order the parts and get to work...:]

Slight jack, but I was thinking access to the #6 plug would be dramatically improved with the valve cover off. Is this so?? I had problems with the #6 last time around.

Thanks,

no not really, the tube the plug lives in is attached to the head and stay's in place when the vavle cover is removed.

It wasn't all over the outside, on most of the ones with oil on them it was only around the metal washer where the plugs screw in. Only on one had it gotten past the part where its made to fit a socket. If I don't get to this till it warms up more am I looking at creating another problem(s)?

could you post a pic of the plugs?
