Just curious what brand of oil & filter others are using for thier 2F engines. I have been using Redline Synthetic since I purchased the vehicle with less than 6k on the rebuilt engine. In addion, I am using the stock Toyota brand oil filters. Should I use another type of oil filter in conjunction with the oil type or are the stock filters adequate. I feel as if the Toyota filters are fine, however, others have reccomended a "better" oil filter. What do you think? Once again, thanks in advance for the info.

It doesn't get any better than the Toyota filter.

Toyota Part Number:

15600-41010

bigger than even the WIX 51515

FYI the napa gold filter is made by wix, so they are a good choice as well if you dont want to get the OEM filters.

I agree that the "big" oem Toyota filter is the best choice, however I believe that Toyota stopped making that filter. I could be wrong, but now they spec a tiny filter for the 2F. I have a few "big" oem filters in the garage, but when they are gone?

C Dan do you have any insight?

The big Toyota filter is widely available, or was as of a month ago. Close to $14 though.

C-Dan...

I got some just a couple weeks ago from CDan. I have two cruisers with 2F's...I buy them 6 at a time...

I DO have a Napa 51515 (or whatever that number is) as a backup...almost as big as the OEM

The size difference on the Wix vs Yota filter really isnt that much. I wouldnt shill out the extra cash for a dealer filter that hold 3oz more oil vs aftermarket. Its whats on the inside that counts. Id go with Wix.
Wix are darn good filters.
Im used to heavy duty diesel applications, so I say if you can find a Donaldson or an AmsOil EA filter that would be your best bet. Heck, if you get an AmsOil EA, it should extend your drain intervals even further.
But Wix are still great filters.
On my 2F, Ive been running Puroilators =D
Cheap and do the job.
I know it sounds mean to put such a cheap filter on a FJ60 but its got over 210K on the clock and it still runs great. Why change the formula? If/When I get it rebuilt Ill start off from scratch with AmsOil.

I use Denso filters; they're actually the current manufacturer for Toyota's OE filters. The oil filter for the 2f is the big guy.

use the standard Motorcraft filter. Motorcraft filters are always highly rated, and can be found anywhere, and aren't that expensive

FrAm man...they are the best. And that textured grip makes changing EZ.

Napa gold is what I use now, and I think it is the same as the wix one. Filter 1515 with dino juice.

Napa gold for me, until I switch over to amsoil then I will use one of their filters. Otherwise I would go with Nippondenso like ellington12 recommended.

I use fram..

Hell the F motor was a bypass system. Anything is better than nothing...

And, if you change your oil every 3500 miles, it never gets dirty ;)

being usings WIX for 10+ years in all my Cruisers, its actally the filter my Toyota parts guy runs on his Toyota's......

In recent years many of the trusted names have become something that is made at a plant in the PRC that has the lowest labour cost.
Some tests done on the net and in 4wd mags have shown some of the supposedly better brands havent quite lived up to their reputation.

Toyota owners have this thing about OEM parts. I'm not impressed with Denso filters for the cost. There are better cheaper filters out there.

I wouldn't use a Fram if it was free, they have great marketing though. There are not that many filter mfg's out there. Champion labs is one of the best. Anything from them has the best QC/QA, not so with Fram. Their top of the line is the Mobil1 filter. I'd buy that at $12 before a Denso at anyprice.

As fas as quality goes I say the denso is no better than a Motorcraft/Purolator. And those are a third of the price.

I'm on an oil forum. check out www.bobistheoilguy.com everything you ever wanted to know about oil and filters and more.

yeah, I've learned over the years Fram=crap. Just sloppy manufacturing. But then again, for a 2F motor, changing every 4k miles, is there really any difference?
