Oil Filter Question - Napa Gold 1515

I have had to destroy the Toyota YZZD3 filter every time I need to change it. They are only installed hand tight but are a bitch to get off. I recently installed a large Motorcraft filter just to check it out. Seems to be made well and got rid of the start up rattle. We will see.

care to share what large Motorcraft filter you are using? Thanks!

Pete, no huge insight beyond just another data point? I'm using the Wix 51515 after the -20004 went away. I hand tighten on with new oil on gasket, and remove by hand, more grunting but nothing too bad.

Well, for this last one I had to hammer one of my monster screw drivers through it to get enough leverage to get it to turn. My oil filter pliers could not break it loose.
I've had to do that a number of times with my 2F filters but not this one so far...

I use the wix/napa and use one of those 3/8" drive slip on filter removing tools (that cup the end of the filter). Trivial to remove with one of those.

Had to buy the tool to remove the small factory filter one time when some ape (after the vehicle was new & received its last free oil/filter change at the toyota dealership I bought it from) put it on too tightly. Have used the tool ever since and removing the small filters is a non-event.

cheers,
george.

I've become a fan of using a short length of rope or paracord with a loop in the end. Wrap the cord around the filter 3 times, run a long screw driver through the loop, and lever it against the filter to pull on the rope. Works like one of those band wrenches but is cheap as dirt.

May to give that a try.
