Great forum - have learned a ton!

Bought a 71 last summer (350) and have enjoyed it thoroughly the short time I have been able to drive it. It's primer grey, no doors, no hardtop - but i am plenty happy with it. I am in the service so havent been around much to drive it or learn school of hard knocks troubleshooting. Brakes just went south the other day and it is stuck in the driveway of my home that I have just rented out! Racing to figure this one out. Really just want to do the front disc conversion and be done with it for time's sake. Just bought my wife a 95 which needs a little attention with the good ole CEL coming on day two of purchase (runs fine - checking this tomorrow).

Originally from Julian - just moved back up there last week after a 22 year absence. I still know some great places to shoot, fish and perhaps hunt for those that are inclined. Once we get settled will be happy to provide pit-stop refreshments at my home if any of you are up that way.

Again - awesome forum! Thanks in advance to all of the regular posters and moderators who have made this an invaluable resource to greenhorns (Grizzly Adams ref) like myself.

Best regards,
Scott

PS anyone want to do a disc conversion in trade for a boatload of beer? Going to buy Man-A-Fre's kit because I have ZERO time.

Just found this thread but not sure how much action it still receives. Well anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. We moved to the Vista area about 3yrs ago and bought our first LC a year later. Picked up a '69 Toyolet and have had dreams of a rebuild every since. Unfortunately lack of time and money have kept me from doing much, that and picking up a '97 LC a few months ago ;)

Well anyway, here is some pic's of my '69. Still haven't taken any of the '97.

Cheers

I recently transferred back to SOCAL after some time overseas and in Grad School. Some of you may recognize my rig from other places, but here is quick run down of it's details along with credit for those who helped me along the way.

Here is a comprehensive list of upgrades I've done to this rig, since May 2010, with A LOT of help from a few good people. Let me make the disclaimer that while I haven't had the balls, or the time, to do some of this work alone, for lack of knowledge, I have had my hands in ALL of it and have learned a HELLUVA lot along the way. Proper credit is given to those who held my hand, or flat out did the work, through the "hard stuff."

Jon, that is a sweet 60! Very nice!

Thank you. I'm reading through your thread and must say that your rig is damn cool, too!

Hello

Just wanted to introduce myself. I jumped off the deep end 2 years ago by buying a 64 FJ40 2 days before getting stationed in Japan. Needless to say I drove it straight to Camp Pendleton and there it has been sitting. Just got orders back to So Cal (29 palms) and will be moving back at the end of January. Too bad I will be deploying to Afghanistan in March!

Needless to say, will need a lot of advice from you guys. I have only a rolling chassis since the PO died and got as far as stripping it down. I am talking completely gutted to the bare walls. At least I have no rust, have a rhino lining and sitting on 35 BFGs.

I am coming home with a 12HT/H55J from Japan but thinking I might go basic and just put in a 350.

If I end up deciding to get someone else to do the work for me when I am deployed can anyone recommend someone in the SoCal area? They would have 7 months to get it done.

I don't know anyone here in SOCAL, but it wouldn't be too hard to put in on a flat bed and send it up to Georg, in Stockton, if you want the right guy to put that diesel in for you. Look up orangefj45 on the forum. He's a good guy who does classy diesel swaps.

Post up some pics of your rig, in the meantime. Welcome aboard!

New Guy

Hey guys,
I just posted a newbie intro in the general 40/55 forum but thought I’d do a little intro here too. I’ve read through this thread and there seems to be a pretty active group of folks around here.

I’ve been in SD (Carmel Valley area) for about six years now, grew up in the IE and worked in and around LA until then. I spent a lot of time in the desert when I was younger, work got in the way so ‘wheeling and camping kind of fell off the radar. I couple years ago I traded in a Tundra for a 100 and never looked back. Been exploring in and around Anza mostly but went to Surf and Turf last year with my :princess: and, much to my surprise, she was very jazzed about the whole ‘cruiser thing so I decided it was time for a 40. Long story short, just picked one up from a guy in Clairemont and looking forward to getting it back in shape.

Hopefully I’ll get a chance to meet up with many of you at some point soon!

(BTW, still trying to figure out how to use the site...looks like I've already exceeded my attachment quota or I'd post a few pics here)

My name is Dave, and I'm addicted to Land Cruisers. I can quit anytime though...

I've been on MUD here going on a couple years I think and I've been in SD for about the same amount of time and never knew this forum existed. Go figure. Anyways, I picked up this 40 up near Fontana from an old man who was at least the 2nd owner. He wanted way too much, but after swapping war stories and eating pizza he relented on the price and we struck a deal for what I thought was fair. I've put a lot of time and effort into "the Mule" (search for the associated story, it's good for a laugh). Someone repainted it in what's pretty close to the stock color. The only non-stock mod is the 350 SBC. I'd give the transplant a 6.5/10 as it's not a total hack job, but I would've done a couple things differently.

Currently I've got a Metal Tech Jackson cage and frame ties on the way that will go in before I deploy. Other plans include a new suspension, but I'm just trying to figure out if I want to go SOA or stay SUA. Finally, I'm on the lookout for a set of doors worthy to be cut for half doors, or an already made set.

So that's pretty much it. I'm always looking to hang out with other Land Cruiser enthusiasts so if there are monthly cruises, etc. I'd like to get in on that. Also, I need to get off my butt and join TLCA.

Sweet! I replied to an old thread

Kidding! WOW I am glad I found this section- finally! I have posted a few pics from the ole camera phone in some other threads, but I don't have any on the laptop yet

85 FJ60 Novice

Hello to all,

Just got my first cruiser on Friday.
Looking to learn all I can about the 85 FJ60.

Thanks in advance.

that 2nd pic is sweet.....

Thanks Guppie. I just finished all the prep for "the Mule" to sit for about 7 months. All new weatherstripping, window felts, etc. OEM the whole way except for the hardtop side panel weatherstripping. Should be good enough until I get back.

Hello, my name is ____ and I'm a cruiserholic.

Well, guess I should intro, though was waiting to get pics but can't seem to find time. Wife bashed it up anyway.

So, bought an '94 FZJ80 back in Feb, F/R factory lockers, 158K miles and all for under $5K. Loving this rig, much more than my old QX4. Wife managed to wreck it on our anniversary weekend, some combo of OE and acceleration issue. So far replaced the TPS that was part of the problem and will also replace the Idle Air Control valve (note, if your LC likes to rev too high when the AC kicks on, replace these parts).

The fun part being the front bumper is mashed up with the grille and the rear DS bumper extension is all bent up. The upside is I'm getting a TJM front bumper from Slee next month and taking the rear bumper extensions off and I'm going FLARELESS. In the wreck, wifey managed to rip off the DS fender flare. So after I get fender fixed/replaced, I'm going to rip off the other 3 and get some holes plugged. Checkced out some other threads on flareless rigs and I like the look.

After I get the front end fixed up and the flares off, those running boards I put back on after I bought it are going to look funny, so just going to have to add some step sliders as well. And who knows where I'll go from there.

Sorry for no cruiser porn, but will post some pics soon as I begin my build thread. My boys are young but by the time they're ready to do some camping I should have one nice excursion rig all set up.

Looking forward to wheeling with ya!
