Hey folks!

Just picked up this two owner 1989 FJ62 that lived its whole life in Chapel Hill, NC. 157k miles. Seems to be in really great shape. Bone stock minus the ~1999 alpine radio. I'm outside Wendell, so it'll mostly be bopping around eastern Wake county, but plan to do some back road cruises elsewhere in the state occasionally.

Plan, at least for now, is to keep it as original as possible.

Current things I'll be doing/parts ordered:
Replacing crumbling front side marker lights
Replacing burnt out high beam bulbs
Replacing chewed up rear wiper blade
Replacing rear hatch struts (hatch currently functions well as a guillotine)

Future list:
Need to take the slop out of the shifter
Interior gas cap pull handle doesn't work - seized up somewhere
Windows are very slow up and down
Driver door lock is very sticky
Hatch lock is not in great shape
Tailgate hinges are only rust I can find on the car

Added a 1987 BJ73 with a 13B-T with aftermarket Garrett Turbo, 5 speed manual, and AC. RHD from Canada with lots of rust on the fenders and rocker panels. Interior is very nice.

Named Tex however probably should be Rusty. An absolute blast to drive. 65 mph is easy.

I am trying to make it to Relic Run.

Is that a 67' Cruiser? Sooo badass!
Just moved up to Winston area at the beginning of this year, still working on getting all my vehicles up here with me, but I made sure to bring the 45 on the first trip, looking forward to meeting some new cruiser people in the near future
What model year is that amazing machine?

@thejd23
Welcome! Fantastic looking truck you have there. I wouldn’t touch the top half. There’s a few folks in the winston area.

Good luck with completing the move and looking forward to seeing that beauty in person soon.

Much appreciated! She’s pretty much done, just doing a few final touches to it. I’m not planning on any more work to the top half, she earned this patina over the years. But yes I’m looking forward to getting out and meeting some locals soon!

Carolina Relic Run in April. See the thread for info. You'll be a star in that '67. Probably not the oldest, but one of the coolest! 'Wheel, hang in camp, or do whatever; it's always a blast. This is our 10th anniversary event. Gonna be a good one.

I’m building a 40 at the moment to have a dedicated trail rig, but I would love to bring the 45 down with all the cookware and stuff and make up some food and just hang out and camp! I’ve been wanting to come for a few years now but not I live close enough to come out, looking forward to it

You were in GA before? That's nothing! You'll meet Jesús from Ohio who drove his 45 with his family in it the first year he came!!! He continues to come but now brings a support vehicle as his family grows. Let's hope his dad comes and makes paella again...it'll change your life! Seriously. And he has an old 40 of his own that looks like a true survivor.

Also, we've got some easy scenic trails that won't risk damaging you, and we're scouting a scenic road loop around the area today for people who don't want to see any dirt.

That’s awesome!im looking forward to it, would love to do some light wheeling, this thing has a terrible departure angle in the rear compared to the 40s. And I’ve gotta fix my parking brake and a few more odds and ends before then as well
