Hi Club,
The time has come to sell Bruce. I haven't been very active in recent years so many of you aren't familiar with my build, so...
1997 40th Anniversary FZJ80, ~300K miles:
  • Original engine mated to a Toyota H151F manual 5-speed by @GLTHFJ60 back around 2014
  • John fabricated a custom cross member with integrated protection for the transmission and transfer case
  • Custom sliders and rear bumper with swing-out tire & fuel carrier built by @NCFJ at HFS
  • OME 2.5" lift
There's body damage on the left side from smacking her into a tree a few years ago. Mechanical repairs were made to replace the radiator, fan and belts but I could never find a body shop that would take my money when I had the money to invest in her.
I recently replaced the damaged left fender, tail lights, headlights and had her almost completely put back together but then had to use the headlights for my wife's 80.
I know that the engine and drivetrain are solid and the truck drives great. I currently have the driver's seat out of the truck because I was trying to fix my wife's power seats and was checking the plastic gears to see if any were in better shape than hers (they weren't).

I don't really know what to ask for the truck, as-is. She's kind of an ugly unicorn... So, I'm going to say $15K OBO and let the market decide. I'm putting it here on the club market to give you folks first dibs and because I trust the long-time members to tell me if my pricing is absurd in either direction.

Can confirm, this truck is super fun. If you've never driven a 1fz with a stick, you're missing out.

Dropping the price on our 100 series to $6500, pretty firm on that price. I can relist the ad info if requested.

Did recently pick up a AJT Key fob and battery, regained function of the power door locks via the key.

261K, Salvage title, Garner area.

Also open to partial trades. I need a rolling shop tool cart, also like watches and 2A stuff.

Other than what you talk about in the Ad what other maintenance items have been done? Suspension, brakes, other fluids, etc. Any leaks?

Brake pads appeared to be on the newer side when I last checked, I am not sure about suspension components but I had a fella come look at it and shake the entire front end down, he did not have any complaints or comments.

It had the valve cover leak when we purchased it, after I replaced it I removed the splash guard and power washed it and the undercarriage to clean it up and keep an eye out for leaks. Nothing new has popped up. I did do an oil change with the OE Toyota filter just to have a baseline on when it was last done.

You beat me to the punch.

I am looking for an 80 series steering box too if anyone has a 2nd to spare
I found a rebuilt one online for $140, just going to roll the dice with it

When you solid axle swap it you can take care of suspension and brakes

Do it

Sounds like a challenge Jacob

Do it

Ah ok. Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't looked yet.
I posted a want ad on the main forum and CruiserMatt in FL posted up. He has a bunch of 80 steering boxes.
I'm gonna support a good mud vendor and just order from him.

The rebuild kit isn't that much. Is the steering box damaged? I rebuilt mine in 2016/2017 and while I didn't do it right the first time (or the second time) I was able to remove, rebuild, and reinstall the steering box in less than 2 hours.

I don't think its damaged, just leaky, the 80 box is supposed to be an upgrade on the 60 and im planning to move to 35's with a sag pump. I also have bad luck anything I rebuild anything. 2 starters, a few alternators and I always seem to end up just buying a remain. Just never seems to work out for me lile it does others. The price on the reman wasnt too bad, or i would most likely have tried to rebuild, failed at that, them bought a reman.

Can confirm, the 80 box has more steering assist than the 60 box, and is a bolt on to a late '85+ fj6x. Big fan of the one on moonshine.

Hey Folks,
I'm going to post Bruce in the Classifieds today. Listing at $15K but dropping the price for ONSC club members to $12K.

Thanks,
Mike - k4azy

Ordering one of these to make sure it clears, but im listing the 33x9.5 kendas. I have 4, plus an old 33x10.5 as the spare. They have about 3k miles on them, offering the 4+1 for $600, assuming the 35 fits. Let me know if anyone is interested
