The snow has turned to rain, that means it is almost spring in SW Montana :bounce:

We are going to try a new (to us) trail up in the Little Belts area. NE of Bozeman by 1-1.5 hours.

NOTE: Our #1 goal/value for the club is Fun & Adventure. This means we haven't prerun the trail, we are going in blind. It could be as easy as forest service roads or it could be a tougher trail. We could have dry conditions or we could face mud/snow drifts. The trail could be wide and flat, or it could be crowded by branches and rutted. We just don't know. We've been scouting it digitally but we don't have first hand knowlege. We were trying to prerun it this weekend but the trail doesn't open until Monday (a good sign but a little late for scouting it out).

Anyone is welcome but please remember the following as the season kicks off...
  • Please bring a well sorted rig to the trail. Breaks happen (ask me how I know) but please don't bring a rig with a known-unresolved issue to the trail. Use that day to get it sorted.
  • Make sure you meet the club requirements and have one hand: a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, FRS/GMRS or HAM radio, full size spare tire, solid recovery points on the front and rear of your vehicle. This is the minimum we are expecting all participants to have in good working order.
  • Well behaved pets are welcome.
  • Families are always welcome.
  • No alcohol while on the trail.
  • Bring your own food and water for the days events.
Maybe @nohermosa will chime in with a few more details of where we are heading and what we are hoping to explore.

We'd love to get a list of who's in and who's still on the fence?

I had PTO for that weekend but am now on my way to Pullman be with my dad. Have fun and take lots of pictures.

I'm in but leaning on the fence.
We have a window installation thats "supposed to" happen on Friday or Saturday. I'm pushing for Friday but can't get a firm answer yet :bang:

I’m in. What’s the highway route out to the little belts look like? Y’all probably heading north by Bridger then over to Wilsall? Im in Livy, just wondering if I need to drive to Bozeman to meet or just cut off the group in Wilsall.

Let's figure out a way to not have you backtrack. From what I see we will go through Wilsall/ringling... I will confirm and we'll post up.

Anyone want to camp Friday night? I have an easy work week now that students are gone... probably take the boys camping that night.

(Im in!)
hmmmmm...I am interested in camping, however, I work Friday which makes it harder to get there at a decent time. My wife and I were planning on camping somewhere near by that Saturday. If anyone is interested in that as well, please let me know. I am not familiar with the area, but looks to be plenty of camping/dispersed camping around there.

So this is where I'm at.... I'm signed up for autoX on Saturday but we shall see how the weather looks, if its snow Friday or Saturday its not gonna happen. SO if the weather looks crappy I'm in. ill make the call at the last min but ill try and camp out on Friday if this is the case.

I'm in for the run. Undecided about camping.
Are we doing the Jellison-Haymaker Jeep Trail?

The window will be here Friday so I'll be on the trail Saturday!
@ttFJC Let me know if you want me to bring some cones...

We did the Ettien Ridge Rd 821 entering at the Holiday Camp Trailhead years ago on our way over to the Middle Fork trail. Going over the top on that July 4th weekend didn’t include anything challenging but there were a few scenic spots. I would think there’s probably still some snow up on top there or they’ll be getting some over the next couple nights.

Looking forward to see some photos.

Hey All,
Not sure how this is going to turn out weather wise and not knowing the area. We are going to be pre-running it together. I don't think these trails are that difficult, but with some snow and mud it may be. Who knows.

A group of us is leaving at 2pm on Friday (meet at the Exxon at 19th and Springhill)... we are heading out 16mile to Ringling and then headed to Lennep and then going to take the trail across the Castles to Checkerboard. Then we will find a spot in the Little Belts. I am thinking the spot in the image below. If the spot is taken we will find another, but let's make that our meeting spot for Saturday Morning at 9am. We will be monitoring 146.46 on ham and on GMRS channel 15 (462.5500).
