Hey I did get this from a group buy

Everyone got complete kits for $800 USD

I got a dual filler missing the knob, no switch and now a diesel aux tank which means I need to swap the aux tank sender $85 shipped and the other thing that sits on top the aux tank to make it fit for gasoline.. And paid $760

I prob paid more then all the other guys and they have their units rigged up.

If the seller honestly told me this, I could have budgeted ahead of time but no... Let's just post and take advantage of the new guy

I assume the other unit to right of the gas sender unit needs to be changed as well? Can someone provide the part number as well?

@cruiserdan can you chime in please?

That is just the pick-up. It should be OK.

If I remember correctly:

On a diesel tank there should also be a return line, since on the diesel the engine can draw fuel from either tank (so a return must exist). On the petrol it is a transfer system when fuel is transferred from the sub to the main, so only one fuel line (outlet) is required.

Seems like a combination of one fuel line (petrol sub), but a fuel sender without the fuel low/cutoff part (the 3rd wire)...

The 100 series subtanks used a different scheme since the 100 could draw fuel from either tank and so there was the need for a return but only a fuel sender without the fuel low/cutoff (like the diesel). Hopefully they didn't send you a tank from a 100 series...

cheers,
george.

Ohhhh, that could be a 100 tank...

I dug up some old pics of my tank, how does it compare to yours?

Can the 100 tank be used on a 80?

This is becoming a nightmare

I've reached out to the seller who sold this to me. It's been several months but this isn't fair at all.

Yeah, the tank you have looks correct for the 80 series. It appears more likely that someone installed the fuel sender from a diesel so you'll need to source a sender for an 80 series Petrol that has the sender/gauge AND fuel empty/cutoff sensor (it's a single assembly that has both units on it and that will have the extra wire.

Oh, why not PULL the sender out of the tank you have - should be even more obvious then if it is missing the fuel empty/cutoff sensor.

cheers,
george.

It looks the same to me. The only difference is the shape of the pickup tube is a bit different but I suspect yours is bent. You also have the early neck where mine is the 96-97 neck. The early neck is easier to fit hoses to.

@george_tlc this was a gift from my wife

Do you know she is on my rear end, ranting to get it installed asap, or she's is going to kill me and throw it away

She isn't one to be messed with

And she is mad at me for not checking this stuff over 100x when I got it and not store it in garage. We were house shopping and bought our house in June so my truck hobby got scooted to the side. Now I got time and energy to pick it up and I'm finding out so many road blocks! Geesh why me?

Here is a correct sender..

By the way, auto shutoff is not absolutely necessary. You would just have to monitor pumping and hit the switch when the tank is empty.

Dan, that's a very pretty looking assy being brand new :)

lp2k: for reference, in Dan's picture, the white 'dangly' bit is the fuel empty/cutoff sensor.

As Dan says, the fuel transfer can continue without the sensor - but you would need to know when the subtank was empty to stop the transfer... and that's the tricky part :)

cheers,
george.

That was 9 years ago, I bet it looks different now....:hillbilly:

My fuel pump changes pitch when it hits the bottom of the tank. It's a clunky Purolator so I can hear it in the cab.

Getting a new sender isn't bad, ~40 bucks for OEM new.

Perhaps you can order it along with other little bits you're still missing for the conversion?
