Any word to a 100 Series Factory Bumper Swing Out Kits?

I think about this way too often as well @SUMMIT CRUISERS Jr! Fingers crossed!

I haven’t had a chance to do any 100 series versions. I know that it will have to be drastically different than the 80 series design due to the height difference of the bumper wing corner and load floor height of the bumper. I’ve got some ideas in my mind, but I don’t personally have the equipment to do what I want to do so it won’t likely be anything in the immediate future.

Thanks for the honest reply. I've done a good amount of staring at it too and don't have a solid idea to get around the parts you mentioned.

This place has tire carriers that attach to the hitch

Max holds 350 pounds

I did source the JDM lower tailgate as well. It was worth it to me to have the oem offset plate holder.
35” tire fit no problem with stock bumper and carrier.
@EarthX where did you source the JDM spec lower tailgate? I've looked into it from amayama in japan but they won't ship it here to USA. Any ideas where I can find one? Also you sourced a JDM upper lift gate as well by the looks of it?

Any other pieces to this puzzle besides the carrier itself, upper and lower tailgate pieces?

I guess you got too busy with your big corporate job and big corporate paycheck!!!

Busy is an understatement, but I also haven’t even looked at buying a 100 series. All the prices are just bonkers right now, but if I can find a clean 100k mile 05+ 100 series for 5k, swing outs will be happening at some point h

I will buy your 100k mile 05+ 100 series for 15k and you won't have the chance to make the swing out

I'm feeling the OEM route but seems like if you dont have that particular model you'd have to swap out the low tail gate in addition to the 1k for the tire carrier

Is the hatch release still in the same spot (roughly centered), or is it moved to the left above the plate recess? In other words, would the tailgate from a 100 with an OEM rear mounted spare work correctly with a "normal" hatch?

Edit:
There’s a shared recess with the mount latch. So, yes.

Has anyone done this install using the Factory Reinforcement Panel / Part? Part Number 61033-60100. If so, does this Reinforcement just bolt in from the Inside? If so, is it as easy as taking the trim off the inside, bolting it into place, then reinstalling the trim? Just want to make sure this doesn't require cutting part of the body to install the Reinforcement. I'm working on acquiring the parts for this now and will do a full write-up if I get it done. I have a 2003 LX470. Anyone know if there's any differences between early tailgates (98 to 02) and later tailgates (03 to 07) or Land Cruiser vs LX470? Thank you for any insight you can offer. Tom

Not helpful. This discussion is about OEM, not Aftermarket. And it DOESN'T fit a LX470. If I was going Aftermarket, the Trail Tailor Spare Tire Carrier fits both the LX and LC, looks better built, and is made by someone that supports this website.

Hello All,
I've been in contact with someone that's done this.
To do it right, you need the following:
- Lower D Pillar Reinforcement (this is available separately and bolts in)
- Upper D Pillar Reinforcement (this is NOT available separately and is welded into the D Pillar by the factory)
- Lower Tailgate (It contains a bunch of Reinforcement, unlike the "normal" Lower Tailgate which is mostly hollow)
- Upper Tailgate (It contains the Recess for the License Plate Light and Frame, which the "normal" Upper Tailgate does not).
- Spare Tire Carrier Frame, Hinges, Latch, Rubber Bumper, etc.
- Body Work / Paint Lower and Upper Tailgate to match your vehicle

Note: LX470 and Land Cruiser Lower Tailgates are different, because the bottom of the LX470 Tailgate is recessed for Trim.
I don't think most people would notice the difference, but if you have an LX470, this adds an additional wrinkle.

Theoretically...
You could buy just the Lower D Pillar Reinforcement, the spare Tire Carrier Frame, Hinges, Latch, Rubber Bumber, and associated Bits.
You "could" reinforce the Upper D Pillar and Lower Tailgate appropriately (hard to say how much is appropriate, and this would depend on the wheel / tire size / weight of the 2 combined).
"Hope" that the recess for your license plate is as deep or deeper than the factory recess for the latch, and shim it out if it is too deep.
Relocate the license plate and light (I believe you'd have to find an aftermarket light / housing for this, since the factory lights can't really be relocated.
Maybe fill the location where the license plate and light used to be with a waterproof tool box or something else (so it doesn't look out of place.

The "Do It Right" option is pricey (since this stuff was never on a USA or Canada spec 100), so shipping will be expensive (big / heavy parts), and body work / paint isn't cheap.
The "Theoretically" option would require some fabrication / reinforcement and I can pretty much guarantee it won't look as nice as the "Do It Right" option.

Hope this helps someone like me that's considering this.

Enjoy.
Tom
