Have seen a lot of recommendations for the Odyssey Extreme AGM battery, but I’ve mostly seen it used in dual battery setups (something I won’t be doing anytime soon) as the secondary battery.

Does it provide the same benefits (power, cranking amps, lifespan, capacity, etc) when used as the singular primary battery?

If so, which model? Or should I be looking at something else like Northstar?

Odyssey’s website directs me to the ODX-AGM34R with the optional height adapter for using the Group 34 battery in a Group 24 or 27 location. But it seems I should be getting the ODX-AGM27F to fit the LC200.

Or should I get the Slee Main Battery Upgrade Tray and use a different model # Odyssey Extreme battery?

Yes, it would provide the same benefit in a single battery setup. The batteries in most dual battery 200 petrol rigs aren't connected unless you link them.

Sure, you could do it, but I think charging is going to be the issue. Odyssey AGM batteries like higher charging voltage than our rigs put out. Looks like you have a '16, so you can't fool the alternator into putting out the higher voltage that the AGM batteries prefer. On the earlier ones you could put a diode in the alt-s fuse to trick the system.

Odyssey Extreme Batteries are top shelf high quality batts. Unfortunately they are not particularly suited for use as a starting battery in our rigs because they require AGM specific charge profiles for long term reliability. The alternator regulator output profiles are designed for flooded lead acid. There are some great ones out on the market that have AGM like qualities including being sealed and maintenance free, with heavy plate construction for long life and vibration resistance. Lookup Deka flooded batts by East Penn Manufacturing.

Odyssey's can be used as an auxiliary batt when paired with a DC-DC charger that has AGM specific charge profiles. Will want to make sure there's temperature compensation as AGMs don't particularly like to be underhood. Best if it can be protected from engine bay heat with a heatshield or possible located in the boot.

Thank you for the resources. Seems like an AGM will be overkill for my needs.

Looks like my best bet for a high quality flooded battery will be a Duracell Ultra Gold 27F (SLI27FM). Good price, 3 year warranty, and the best specs from the locally available flooded batteries (Interstate, DieHard, Everstart Maxx, etc).

EDIT:
The Duracell Ultra Gold I mentioned is sold unbranded at Sams Club for less, and that's what I ended up getting. 840 cold cranking/1035 cranking amps, 3 year warranty, and $99 installed ($160 at Batteries Plus under the Ultra Gold name).

@TeCKis300 it looks like they are made by East Penn Manufacturing as well, like the Deka batteries you mentioned.

I got it installed and it seems to be a solid choice for a basic flooded battery with slightly upgraded specs at a great price. They also offer a Group 31 version for those running the Slee Main Battery Upgrade Kit.
