I had debated going topless, but I hate for a Nor'easter to start up and blow all weekend. Or rain...

If the trip is for members only. How do I join? I am located in Wilmington so trips to meetings is most likley not going to happen.

Sounding better each day. Who knows I may be able to talk the wife into it after all. But then I wouldn't get to camp...never mind...going bachelor . Plus I need to save the money until I get my diesel in.

By the way...how much extra fuel do you bring with you. I have never driven mine yet but considering I can't make it down the driveway without running out of fuel I doubt I can make it far on the stock tank during the day. Not sure if there are any long stretches I should be worried about.

In a 40 you should be fine. I did it a few years back from Corolla all the way down to Cedar Island with no gas issues. And I only got 10-12mpg and a crappy 12 gallon poly tank. Just remember that going north after Hatteras that if you see a gas station pull over and fill up. Or bring a 5 gallon can for safety.

Download this link, read it a couple times and print it out.

If your coming in or going out I'd reserve a spot on a ferry. I know with an older cruiser you cannot always prepare to be at a place at a specific time. But having a spot and not waiting is well worth planning ahead. Make sure you are there 30min ahead. Also knowing the schedule will help in planning lunch and stops. Also plan on haiving something to do if your traveling on the Ocrakoke ferries. They are long. Plan on that ordeal to last 3 hrs. Views are awesome.

OBX Trip Departures

Alright everyone as we approach the departure week, I would like to bring a few items to surface. For those of you planning to be in the early crowd (Wednesday crowd departing Raleigh at around 1:00pm) please post up so I know if I need to add any additional spots to my Reservation with the NCDOT Ferry Service. I currently have the following in the early crowd, I apologize if I have left anyone out....

Steven Hickock
Ryan Bernard
Justin Gibhardt
Brtian Keefer
Myself

EDIT: Please note revised time below
I currently have made reservations for 7 spots. We are required to be at the Cedar Island Ferry Station 30 minutes in advance or we loose our reservation, that means we need to be there at 4:15-4:30pm. The ferry ride is 2.25 hours and will put us at Howards pub for supper around 7:45pm. From there we will make plans for thursday and thursday night.

For the crowd coming thursday night friday morning, I think the general consensus is that we will meet in Kill Devil Hills Friday morning, we will make the time so that those not caravaning can also have a destination and planned time of arrival. From there will we drive north and visit various destinations.

Everyone should be arriving and in OBX by Friday night. Friday night ONSC will take care of supper and we will follow it with a raffle with various items, some of which have been donated by Fred Anderson Toyota here in Raleigh, NC.

Saturday we will then continue driving north towards Corolla stopping to visit the local land cruiser enthusiast and see his OBX tour business and talk land cruisers.

We have a few leaving mid-day/afternoon on Saturday so we need to be sure to get a group shot with everyone in attendance included.

If anyone has anything to add please let me know and ONSC will do it's best to accomodate everyone. I know there are a few that plan on staying in hotels and then there's the "fishing" crowd...did I mention we will be eating the local catch for supper one night. Look forward to seeing everyone on the trip.

Greg

Group Leaving Friday

For the group heading out on Friday, who's in and where do we want to meet (e.g. Raleigh, 540/64?)? I know Juan and Joe mentioned leaving on Friday...

I'm bringing my two kids (1yr and 5yr), so would like to leave from Raleigh around 8-9am and allow time for a couple of stops along the way. I don't think I can make it to Kill Devil Hills until early afternoon.

Where do we want to stay Friday night? Or at least where do we want to have the club dinner? Unfortunately, I won't be camping this trip and need to stay in a hotel and would prefer (plan) Nags Head or Kill Devil Hills.

I don't know how long it will take to drive from Kill Devil Hills to Corolla, but Google maps says it is only 30 miles. If we stay in Kill Devil Hills Friday night, we should be able to make it to Corolla before lunch time on Saturday to visit the LC outfit and allow Greg and anyone else to return mid-day Saturday. Thoughts?

I'm headed Fiday morning as well and am trailering my 40. My max speed is going to be around 70mph, so I hate to hold anyone up. But, if that's cool w/ you guys, give me a time and a place and I'm there. I can meet in Raleigh or Rocky Mount, no problem either way. I will be flying solo on this trip (well, unless you count my dog), but I plan on camping unless weather is really bad.

If anyone else is trailering, we need to figure out where to park tow rigs and trailers. I am working on that right now (I have some relatives in Hatteras, but we aren't going that far south with this group). I'm thinking a K-Mart or something of the sort, but we should clear it with management to make sure we don't get towed or messed with. Anyone else want to chime in?

Is there anyone going in on Thurs night? I might be up for it but otherwise I'd be with Friday morning.

8am on Friday is fine with me, but I can go earlier if need be!

540/64 or anywhere on that side of town works for me, anyone know of a specific spot/gas station etc.?

64/95 could be a good spot to meet up with those from the south, looks it'd take an hour to get there, if we left Raleigh at 8, meet up there at 9???

I'm going to be with the camping/fishing crew...I'm trusting we've (maybe) got a spot in mind for Fri and Sat night, can we just camp anywhere?

Just throwing my opinion out there; however, I don't have any experience with the area.

I am camping as well. Not sure if I am bringing a trailer or using the tow bar. I would hate to have to leave a trailer but leaves more room for catstrophic failure and still be able to bring it home. I would have no idea where to park. Other than I will be putting a lock on both the pin and the latch if I bring it.

REMINDER: If you plan on fishing be sure you have a current NC Wildlife Fishing License it is required for coastal fishing...one year fishing license is $15.

Ramon and Jared,

I forgot that I have to drop my dog at a kennel in Cary after 8am. How about we meet in Raleigh ~8:45am? From google, I found a McDonalds at 440 & Poole Rd that might be an easy spot to find and allow us to grab a quick breakfast while waiting...

Jason,

If we can get out of Raleigh by 9am we can make it to Rocky Mount by 10am. I don't know that area well, but we could meet you somewhere along 64 (Another McD's at 64 & Wesleyan Blvd?). Other suggestions welcome...
