Obsession over rear shock travel and options - really???

I'd run N74L's if I can get a answer on wether or not I can run them without a HUGE lift.

12fishy runs shocks for a 6" lift with his current 4" lift. SO that means we should be able to run shocks for a 3 or 4" lift on the current 2" lift that we get from the 866 coils and cranked tbars

Maybe Shotts can explain himself:rolleyes:

OK, it's later, I'll answer.

1. When the N74L shock is fully extended (drooped) the 3" lift height 863 spring barely stays in. This is why I retained it on the bottom end.

2. Using a shorter spring (less than 3-inch lift) will NOT work even if retained on the bottom end. Why? The spring top will come unseated from the frame. If this happens you will lose the rubber gasket that keeps the spring from rotating on the frame.

3. Even with my 863's I lost one of these gaskets once and did not know it. I must have been so flexed out the thing fell out while wheeling. I would go over bumps and hear "springy" noises. It was driving me crazy for months until finally my mechanic noticed it was gone. He also noticed my spring's bottom point was not resting on it's lower stop as it was moving around (rotating) in place as I drove. So we bought a gasket, installed it, and two years later there's no noise.

So it takes 3" minimum lift to use N74L's without complications. And even if they'd work, spring retainer straps are not an option for me. No way. So below 3" you'd have to retain at BOTH ends...not an option (if viably possible) or use some sort of droop limit strap which defeats the whole purpose of the L-shock.

Your logic is flawed (as usual :flipoff2:).

A 3" lift springs does not necessarily have a longer free length than a 2" lift spring.

I wouldn't be surprised if the stock, 0" lift spring is longer than your 3" lift spring.

Tell me you're pulling our leg Shotts! Tell me its, at the very least, a late April Fool's joke. Right?!

Jebus.
