I made longer shackles and got some good grade 8 bolts and was thinking about nylocks for the nuts instead of lock washer and nut. Is this a bad idea?

i use nylock with no issues. i like em. you don't want too much torque on your shackle bolts, otherwise you stress the bushings and they are chewed to bits in no time. you want the shackle to be able to swing.

nylocks are a good idea, lockwasher and nut is a bad , 'cause you have to torque it down to make the washer lock, which will pinch the shackle on the bushings, and potentially limit movement or promote wear on the bushings

I've had them come off, especially if they are located next to a heat source, like the exhaust. I prefer a different lock nut. I believe they were distorted-thread lock nuts. I know Lowe's has a selection of them. I bought mine from McMaster.com. Since using them I've not had a single problem.

X2 the DS one is real close to the exhaust manifold. I check that one often.

Ok so i got the shackles done and moved to the hanger and what a b!tch. I am trying to put the new bushing in now but its one hell of a time. Anyone have tips on this? I ran out of light so I will press on in the morning.
