Ok fellas, I know I ask a bunch of questions for a new guy but,

I see an nv4500 from a 1999 dodge deisel, 105000 miles, with bell house, clutch and transfecase for 650.00. Is this a deal? Is a tranny from a deisel good? Can I use a dodge transfer case in my fj40 or will I use my old T case. Is there anything I should look for?

Seems pretty cheap to me. Yards around here get a grand or more for a 4500, especially if it was from a diesel...

Tcase will be left hand output up front and centered rear, so unless you are going to build new axles, or swap your Land Cruiser onto the rest of the Dodge running gear...you will not be using it.

Look for broken mounting ears on the tranny.... if it was in a wreck, these can crack, and then your 'new' tranny will leak gear oil...

Good luck!

Thanks Steve, So I can use a dodge deisel trans with their bell housing with an addaptor to my 1f motor. Then buy an addaptor for my t case...and It all should work?

Have you been to AA's website about this?

You need a new flywheel housing to make the tranny work with the Toyota F engine...

You will need to shorten the tranny output shaft....a cutoff wheel *should* work fine for this...

Good luck!

Like Steve says, read the AA site and get their NV4500 conversion manual. It has a lot of good info and is worth the $10. An inline 6 w/NV4500 in your FJ40 is a LONG drivetrain.

I paid $900 for my NV4500 from a 1999 Chev 4wd.

i had my nv4500 rebuilt for about $700. as long as the gears are good i think it would be almost as good as new for $1350.
