Here's probably your only vote to go ahead and do it.

Much easier to correctly do it now, super easy access to rear main seal with the pan dropped...I mean, you've removed every f'ing bolt on the truck and taken it down to the bare frame for plating and coating. Why wouldn't you go ahead and replace the oil pan gasket???

Hahahahaha......

Ok; who's got an engine stand I can borrow for a couple of weeks?

:)

I am with @fountainhead honestly I'm surprised you're not going full @beno on that motor trans and case since you are already all in on everything else.

Engines and trannys (both kinds) scare me.

Seals and gaskets I can do. Bearings, shims, tolerances, piston rings? PFM.

Is the oil pan gasket a cork gasket or is it FIPG?

And on most engines the bottom of the rear main seal housing seals against the oil pan. So it would be advisable to do the oil pan if you want to replace the year main.

I'm with @jynx and @dnp that I don't know why you wouldn't want to rebuild the thing...

Deal @wngrog !

I'm supposed to talk to @beno later today to finalize my big ass order of parts; I'll ask him what a gasket normally cost new.

Thanks.

Got my new vibratory number from HF today. They replaced the old one free of charge.

Very pleased.

Not sure about cleanliness, but when @wngrog sold me that cad set, some had been refinished with a bit of rust/grease, and it did affect the quality of a few.

Tumbling them seems to remove every single trace of rust/dirt/grease. I have a feeling they'll look great when finished.

The JIS hardware on the 40 have an indention on the bolt head that grease likes to hide out in; that's the ONLY place that I have to go back with the blaster and clean every so often.

There is a wAsher at 4 oclock in the pea gravel next to your vibrator.

That's a stainless washer from another project. Good eye though.

And to clarify @dnp , I try to get most of the heavy grime off the bolts with diesel fuel/ATF and Super Clean (more potent Purple Power alternative) before placing them in the tumbler. If there's heavy rust, I'll hit it with a wire wheel.

Blasted some fuel pump parts and power steering parts from Lash.
