Wow. You're not the first person I've heard about having something similar happen like that... that's a scary place to lose a bolt for sure.

You can't leave it at that! What did you and Luis talk about? What did he think?

COMPLETED

Apparently Mud doesn't like my flickr links today...:meh:

3 Hours to install, my great aunt fanny. Only have one bolt left for the A-pillar bracket that is slightly off, just need to grind the hole down just a tad and it'll be fine. :bang:

Hardest part was reassembling the air filter. the tube from snorkel to cylinder is not quite right... Also, the template wasn't totally accurate so I did a lot of back and forth with the snorkel with the studs in. Still, the drilling was a breeze and the sheet metal hole saw was the easiest part. I like it. Can I do it some more please? haha.

So, next up is breather extensions, checking fluids and washing out the engine bay that I forgot to do after Hard Rock last time...:whoops:

Excuse the grainy and cock-eyed photos.

Glad your boy had the presence of mind to handle the situation correctly. just like Jeremy Clarkson says its all about POWEERRRR (or in this case torques...) ;-)

Nice!

Mine might be up soon, as much as I always thought I'd never need it... Richloam proved me wrong this last go-round :)

He said it looks, runs and sounds great. We took it on 441 (OBT) ad cruised at 55. -60 mph and sounds good. Even took it to 70mph. No prob. The peddle was pretty low to get it to that speed but its been running better and better the more miles i put on it. He thought the fj40 1978 yr already had higher gearing but not mine i checked when i got home it has 4.11.( One revolution of drive shaft = 1/4 turn of wheels.) I was told that was how you tell.. If I'm mistaken someone tell me. Other wise I'll put 3.73 differentials in it when I find a set and I'm good to go. See you all at what ever I next on the calendar...

Haha, from the pictures I saw...you REALLY need this. and the breather extensions. and better door seals. haha.

Glad to see all you had to do was break it in. Good luck on finding some 3.73s. People are always gearing up so finding a set on the classifieds shouldn't be a problem. Can't wait to see the mall cruiser! ;-)

I think the 4.11 to 3.73 cut was at 79, my buddy's 78 had 4.11. Keep an eye on the drain plugs if they are magnetic, a little grey sludge is generally OK, big chunks of silver may be trouble.

Glad it is coming around for you.

No, just coated the exposed metal with rust prevention primer. Local dealer didn't have touch up paint like instructions call for. Would have been much easier that way...hah. the fender is already open on either end so sealing it would be a bit unnecessary. Also, all the bolt holes have big ol'washers on the inner wall so that should help leakage...

I think what Rocky was getting at was not trapping moisture between the plastic tube and the fender. You could probably silicone seal some of it to help. But it might just make the problem worse!

I dont think its an issue, otherwise we would be reading about it on 80 tech...the most anal of all cruiser owners

Exactly.

That can be a problem when you find yourself in crappy situations... did you lose a game of spin the bottle?
