Have you driven it enough to get some MPG figures?
Should be pretty good.
My brothers HZJ73 (same drive train as yours) got about 20MPG.
About the same as my dads BJ40 (4cyl), but the HZ has MUCH more power.

An HZ in a 40 should be a very nice combo!

A tach might be a good idea.
Here is a very easy and cheap way to go:

http://tinytach.com/diesel.php

You can have one installed and working in under 30 min. Just three wires. Pos, Gnd, and one with a sensor that saddles any injector line.
You may or may not like the way it looks though.

I put one on one of my vehicles, and it works flawlessly.

finally done

It took me about 2 weeks of mornings before work to do all the sanding, rust repair type prep. It took justin and i another 2 hours to tape everything off just to do a 20 minute spray job but its finally done. Ive wanted to do this since the day i bought the truck a year ago. I know its not everybodys style but i like it. What do you guys think.

Nice man!

I'm curious about the line you took on that back quarter panel. Why didn't you stick with the lower line of the window to go across?

No more pinstriping on that bad boy!

That was an early morning power tool woops. I was just sanding away and musta forgot what i was doing because the sander didnt stay below that invisible line. It was only about an inch wide and 2 inches too high so i coulda left it and buffed it out but i didnt i just changed where the liner stopped. Oh well.

1st tank of diesel completed... Heavy city ( lots of stop &go traffic) driving ave 19 mpg. I haven't had it on the highway yet but Ill likely get mid twenties. I have a set of 3.70 differentials coming this week. When LUIS helps me put them in highway milage will likely be even better.

Very nice and at least a little envious of the mileage!

carpets out why not line it

when i did my exterior i bought too much liner just incase. justin had his carpet out because of a prior woops so we did the interior of his truck in raptor liner the other night.

we used 3 of the 4 cans that come with the raptor kit.
it came out good, the cargo area got 2 coats and we will eventually do the floor where your feet go in a second coat when ever we get around to doing the second coat on my exterior.

The only bad part I can think of is removal to fix rust etc.

It does look good - and as Justin and I were talking today, it's going to be fun getting the plugs out to remove the bolts to do that body lift :)

Why not suspension lift instead?

Or it could be an 80 thing and I don't understand, sounded harsh and didn't need to...

I told him i woulda prepped it differently (more taping off things that may be needed like access holes) but all he kept sayin was were ready to spray it now. I guess we will see how easy it is to scrape off when you do that body lift.

There, fixed that for you.

Argh. My starter went out on me today.

It's been giving me signs of not wanting to turn over ... oddly, ever since that deep water crossing...

Anyway, it left me stranded at Lowes' with my daughter. Fortunately my wife wasn't far, so she took her home while I waited for AAA. I had left all my tools at home, so I was empty handed. I was just about to go into Lowes and buy a cheap hammer to smack the starter when AAA showed up. The driver took one of his tow hooks and tapped it while I started the truck and she reluctantly started up.

I just bought the thing - new, OEM Denso from Rock Auto, back in April. Fortunately it's got a warrantee on it. Unfortunately I think I have to ship it off. So I'll look and see how much a rebuild kit is vs. shipping the thing off.

By the way, hood up, camped out in my truck and not ONE person at Lowes stopped to ask if I needed help. People suck.

That's a Richloam scar...we should have told you to pull it and purge it of water...a common problem that can be avoided. Sorry about that...we know better. There are certain things that should be done after deep water fording...not just checking the diffs. Winches...the same...if submerged they can be taken apart and purged of water...greased and reassembled. Nothing is water PROOF! Nothing! Let's make this a reminder to all that a lot of mechanical things can be saved by a simple disassembly, drying out, greased, silicone sealed and reassembled after deep water crossings or extended time in deep water.
