Not mine, but supposed 2016 Land Cruiser Double Cab Pickup for sale...

The truck will be on the East Coast for at least the next three to four weeks. We expect to hold an open house for the vehicle at OK4WD -- to include all of the local Land Cruiser enthusiasts that want to come out -- sometime before the truck heads out to Colorado Springs for final SEMA assembly.
If you want to be among kindred spirits, take time to drop by here with your 79 Series. :)

I think the point is that you would have to treat the care and feeding of this vehicle like an unsupported exotic and a not a Tundra you bought at your local Toyota dealer.
Correct. I guess I needed a sarcasm emogi.

Um OK. It's obvious you have experience in the TMS USA dealer world and the world of parts procurement and service.

It's obvious.
Um ok. No need to bite, it was sarcasm.

I think this whole thread is making people edgy. I'd love to think (on behalf of folks who can actually afford something like this) that this guy's either figured out some loophole in the import laws where oodles and oodles of other folks couldn't, or that he's decided to actually start his own registered importer so that he can bring Toyota diesel trucks over.

Right now, he appears to have gotten as far as getting a temporary EPA exemption. From his later comments he seems to be saying that he's doing testing with it, which is one reason for those exemptions. If that's the case, it's a legitimate step in working towards being able to import trucks, but it's only one step and doesn't guarantee what EPA will say.

Based on these guys shady past and not being up front, truthful, and transparent to now I would feel better about importing one using todays methods and taking my chances with EPA like several do today.

If it does get pulled off legally I say good for them but anyone with a 100K to spend will google Michael Papp and then....

Fixed what? Phil, Phil, Phil -- You just can't help yourself can you? TPS. No, not Throttle Position Sensor. I'm talking about TPS -- Tall Poppy Syndrome. Have you heard of it? In all seriousness, I encourage you to take a moment and go look it up -- and hopefully take heed! I suspect that doing so -- and gaining a better understanding of how TPS impacts you -- would allow you the opportunity to aggressively address it and hopefully help you become a much happier person for you and for those around you. Unfortunately, opportunity is just that -- opportunity -- or opportunity lost if you fail to act! I suspect that someone that looks at themselves as a kid with their tongue stuck out giving everyone the finger is unlikely to be able to engage in the kind of self-reflection required to make the changes necessary to allow you to engage with the general public -- or even just people in general -- in a more positive, constructive way. I'm just not sure why you work so hard at being a Negative Nelly rather than a true supporting vendor. Life is too short!

That said...yes, my genius brother has -- in some ways -- created a difficult life for himself and others. So dwell and rehash and dwell some more if you like. As I have said before, I am not my brothers keeper. That said, nothing in my brother's past changes the fact that it is because of his genius that LC America has been able to legally bring NEW 2017 70 Series LC79 vehicles to the US where, in very short order -- relatively speaking -- they are going to be available for legal sale here in the US. For the first time. Against all odds. Despite all the naysayers. Following all the rules. Mark my words -- LC America will be selling fully legal LC79 in the US before the end of the year.

So Phil -- I want you to be a supporting vendor! So to that end, I would be happy to pay your airfare out here to Colorado Springs to see, touch, smell and review the vehicle that we will be selling. There is only one caveat. Report honestly on your visit and your overall impression of the LC America effort as it functions NOW. Otherwise, the message that you keep trying to send will continue to be very, very stale, outdated and uninformed!

v/r,

John.

One of your brother's last email rants included this gem: "I'm sure John, myself, will get no pleasure in making the posters on IH8MUD look like idiots. Ok, even I couldn't type that with a straight face."

Please make us look like idiots!

As I've stated many times, there's a quick and easy way to turn all these skeptics into supporters. Post up your HS-7's, 3520-1's and their supporting documents that show you have imported these vehicles for compliance testing. Save the carbon impact of travel and spend a few minutes scanning and posting. Discussion over! Why wouldn't you make it easy on yourself?

Steve -- This is not an instructional course for other LC importers -- like yourself -- to show you in a few documents what it took us quite some time to figure out. That said, I would be happy to extend the same offer to you that I extended to Phil -- come out here to see, touch, smell and review the vehicle that we will be selling -- with the same overall caveats.

Happy to come take a look, but without paperwork to back up your claims, it's pretty hollow. I was standing next to a row of VDJ7x's, this morning, in the US legally. That does not mean that they meet EPA and DOT standards for their year model or that they can be sold legally. So you could "make us look like idiots" like your brother said here on this "unknown 4WD forum called IH8MUD" as he said, or you can keep playing smoke and mirrors.

There is nothing revealing about these forms, you aren't going to be "instructing" anyone. What you would be doing is shutting up every critic who has questioned your integrity. Why wouldn't you do that instead of continuing the charade?

These are check box forms. Their accompanying paperwork is nothing more than approval for compliance testing. The only thing you're going to reveal by producing them is that you have indeed imported two trucks for EPA and DOT compliance testing. Wouldn't that be a great thing to prove?

You claimed you'd have a truck at the top of Pike's Peak earlier this year, but that didn't happen. When are you reserving your SEMA booth? It's coming up quick!

Steve --

I guess I am just not understanding how I would get the vehicles here illegally. I've provided the EPA exemption documents and VIN numbers. Here (again) are the EPA testing exemptions that we received in November 2016 and June 2017 for these vehicles:
  • Exemption Number: 2016-NOVEMBER-LD-TEST-I-6403-VIN-JTFBB71J2G4321549
  • Exemption Number: 2017-MAY-LD-TEST-I-7421-VIN-JTFBV71J0H7650032
I'm not sure what else you are looking for. And as far as having the vehicle at the top of Pikes Peak, I suspect that will be the first place that it goes once it is here in the Springs!

JP.

Doesn't OEX, and a few other forign service training organizations have various LC units in the states to familiarize diplomats and SF's with the units before they ship out? The units CAN be driven onroad but they cant be sold, afaik. The only units I've seen sold, were military owned import surplus.

As many people have pointed out, you can bring in a vehicle LEGALLY under a temporary import. You could also bring one in illegally in any number of ways. Your brother is quite versed in this from my understanding. None of this is any type of proof that you are selling an EPA and DOT legal vehicle.

Why would you keep dancing around this instead of "making us look like idiots" by sharing the basic paperwork? There are no secrets on a form with nothing but check boxes.

So John - Prove to us this is not another scam by the Papp brothers.

I purchased three of these and went thru all the hoops to make them legal in the US - No, I won't tell you the process, but yes, it passes all emissions, safety, inspection tests and has a valid PA title. No tricks.

The three I purchased are identical. I sold one within 15 minutes of getting it off the boat. One I am keeping for myself. This one is for the real 4X4 enthusiast.

isn't there another group claiming to be importing 70 series to the states legally?

Who is it?

Doesn't OEX, and a few other forign service training organizations have various LC units in the states to familiarize diplomats and SF's with the units before they ship out? The units CAN be driven onroad but they cant be sold, afaik.

Yes correct, there are a number of exemptions including foreign diplomat use and special research/training purposes, and yes they cannot be sold in the US and must be exported after their use is complete.
