Don't get me wrong, it's. dream truck of mine too, but I find it hard to fathom that the individual got 3 of them into the country, kept one, sold one, and is selling this one on EBay and won't disclose documents to show proof or even disclose how they did it. Makes me highly skeptical...

Add me to the list of "How in the heck did they do that?"

My understanding was the only way to import a newer truck was to have it tested for crash safety and emissions, OR have Toyota produce documentation indicating that the truck complies with [model year] crash/emissions requirements.

Did the dude just grease the right palms or what? Once you get ANY state to issue a title transferring it about should be easy and cheap. Maybe he works at the PA DMV?

Keep em comin!

You can bet that if there 100% legit he's not gonna tell his trade secret! Maybe he has a bunch of friends that are diplomats, maybe he has a relitive thats high up at Toyota, maybe he's a politician with lots of pull at the epa? Who knows?

If someone has diplomatic immunity can they import Land Cruisers without breaking the law? I don't know how any of this works.

The way I understand the immunity law is a fine line at that and it is not to be used as a business.
I asked the question to the seller on - Why the VIN number is not postd? no reply yet.
His has something going on just to post the vehicle publicly. The way he presents the auction noting he can and will end it at anytime because of buyers on the side makes me wonder if this is just a way to get names of interested people with the funds. The people I have known with late model overseas vehicle dont talk about hows and wheres publicly.

I too asked for the Vin number and haven't gotten one yet. I highly doubt he's using any type of diplomatic immunity law to bring these in. I suspect I may know how he's doing it and If he's able to make it happen then he's the only one, And that my friends is why he's not telling everyone how he did it. Also, as mentioned above these vehicles do go for almost $60,000 overseas, then add in the price of shipping duty etc. finding out how to get it here is one thing, but that's a big chunk of change for a no warranty Toyota pick up, even if it is the holy Grail. My guess is most of us in this thread don't even have the money to make that sort of purchase right now, I know if I had the $ I'd be bidding and keeping my mouth shut on mud;)

I would be interested in seeing the actual VIN plate and title. I know hotrodder types get really fast and loose with swapping frames and engines and interiors without "changing out" the 2" by 4" section of dash that holds the VIN plate.

If this 70 comes up as a Tacoma on the title I wouldn't touch it for that kind of money.

From the bottom of the listing page:

On Nov-16-16 at 03:28:25 PST, seller added the following information:
"I have repeatedly clarified that the EPA/DOT / all alphabet agencies have been satisfied with this importation. It is a completely legal, inspected, import, with a valid PA title. I will not reply to anyone who asks me how I accomplished this, other than to say I've done my homework, I've done it before, and it cost me money, time, effort, frustration, and more money. If you simply must know how I did it, buy the vehicle and I will explain it fully. Or, let me know, and I will make a "Buy It Now" auction for $150,000 and I will teach you from A to Z. Otherwise, please stop guessing, and simply assume I am telling the truth."

On Nov-16-16 at 03:56:37 PST, seller added the following information:
"I am showing this vehicle to anyone who wants to see it this Saturday and Sunday, 11/19 and 11/20, from 8am to 8pm. I am in Orefield PA, just north of Allentown PA, contact me for directions. But Again, I will not stop the auction for ANY price."

"I have about 12 other people coming out this Saturday / Sunday. I cleared those two days to show it, feel free to come out - send me your email & I'll give you my contact information." - Answer to one of the questions asked.

So perhaps if anyone is nearby...they can go check it out and report back that it is the real deal with legit papers.

So these are about $90,000AUD which makes it about $66,000USD. Add $5000 for S&H and this needs to go for $71,000USD for the guy to break even. And I've assumed that he didn't pay any big bucks to get it registered.

Regardless of how they are getting them in, what happens if they were to get in trouble later? There is no insurance or any other way to protect that risk from financial loss because this person thought they were bringing them in legally and puts those in jeopardy for whomever purchase this one or others if they decide to bring more in. Just have to see what happens. Would be nice to see someone testify to ih8mud members about this!

Once a title is issued I think the registration hurdle is mostly past you.

You can insure anything for a price.

Whether or not an insurer will assume liability for your 79 hurting or killing someone on a public road because the 79's crumple zones are not up to US spec is a whole other story.
