He also listed it on MUD with some additional description:
I have a 1974 FJ 40 that is just getting the finishing touches on a frame off restoration. This was originally a factory soft top model - now has hard top. It has a 1970 F engine installed that has about 50,000 miles on it. Carb has been re-built. Has a 3 speed floor shift transmission. It has a 4" Skyjacker custom lift, front disc brakes, custom front and rear bumpers and power brakes. The entire vehicle was sanded to bare metal. Has very little bondo - was finished like it was when new - with riveted areas visible, etc. I did not want to cover the whole vehicle with filler. Looks great. It is also equipped with an original front mat, later model tilt wheel, front and rear heat, new gas tank, complete new exhaust, new headliner, new seats, mirrors, windshield glass, weatherstripping, etc. It has 12" wide, 15" Alcoa aluminum, one piece wheels with 35-14.50-15 Mickey Thompson Baja Belted white letter tires with good tread. Frame and tub are matching numbers. Everything works as it should.
This is a really nice restoration of a very good original FJ40. Located west of Winston-Salem, NC. Call 336-345-0630 if you have questions or want to come check it out. I can deliver for a reasonable fee, if needed.
Asking $17,500.00. Might be interested in partial trade for 24+ foot enclosed car hauler.
I can send more photos - I could only upload 3 for some reason. Thanks

That one just posted by Overtones on the vehicle classified has me drooling. It'd be a great project - $7500 obo in Cali though.

I loved that one too-too bad it's in CA!

Southern cal-if I had no job, a trailer, and a truck to pull the trailer with, I be all for a road trip! Haha!

New find....what do you think?

So, I came across this in a round about way. It is owned by the husband of a friend from high school back in MS. There is a blog from when they bought it with a lot of original pics and the story...apparently this came from a guy in Wilmington and there is a lot of documentation on it. I also included the listing on craigslist. I am not a fan of the seats or the jump seats being gone but am hoping he still has them...could always find some too. What do ya'll think?

Perfect! Just want to get some input on price and condition from the experts. :) here is some more info he sent :

Disk brakes on the front, drum on the back. Brakes were replaced last year. Probably have 50 miles on them.

At the same time as the brake job, I put a DUI distributor and new plugs and plug wires on the engine. Rebuilt the front hubs also. Probably has 50 miles on all of that.

Rust: previous owner placed a piece of sheet metal on drivers side floorboard. I looked underside and saw some rust it was covering. There are a few rust holes under the passenger seat where the fuel tank used to be.(I relocated fuel tank under the rear of the truck). The paint is bubbling some from under the paint on the windshield frame. There is a small rust crack on the rear door sill. Rear quarter panels are solid (no rust).

Paint: when I first bought it, the hardtop was separated into every piece it could possibly be. So I painted each piece before assembling. Then we painted the tub (still attached to the frame). We painted the front fenders, hood, and windshield frame separately.

Doesnt sound too bad - most of the areas he mentions are pretty common and not unmanageable. If you look back on my thread on the 40s tech page, youll see I uncovered similar issues..mostly on the driver side due to the matting originally in them managed to contain a lot of moisture - so when you pull it out - its gonna be there. I believe the 78 has that same matting over the tranny hump as well so that might be something to consider..I also had a couple of pinholes under the passenger side gas tank.

It looks pretty solid. . maybe a little overpriced. Love the Arb Bumper. If he's here on mud - he's probably got a build thread you can check out for more info. The work he's done on the hardtop saves you headaches later.

The huz and I had to laugh once we realized that jane would probably outlast both of us in this life whether we kept her up or not :D

That red one in advance is only up to $7800 on eBay!

I saw that and had offered him more which he should have taken. My worry with it is he doesn't have any before pics so there could be a lot of rust. I am going to watch it tomorrow though but will be on a plane back from Tahoe. How much do you really think its worth?

I really dont know - Id let it go but still its interesting to watch.
