Hello fellow Mudders!

Like most of you, I love to tinker on my Landcruisers. I picked up a low milage (128k) '88 62 in 2019 and wanted to put a roof rack and RTT on it for some adventurous trips I've been wanting to take. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and have lots of experience in many fields of manufacturing and am currently working on a 1200hp, electric, self driving boat. Long story short - I figured if I wanted to design parts that I want for my vehicles, why not offer them for sale? So I have created North Cascades Designworks, LLC to share my passion with other like minded Mudders.

I have 4 pre-production roof racks available for sale at a $350 savings, $1100 total cost! I'm making some slight tweaks to the design and finish but these racks are production ready (my 4th revision) and come with everything you need to mount to your vehicle. All my future accessories will work with this rack as my changes are mostly for cosmetic improvements.

Details:
North Cascades Designworks is offering this full coverage roof rack for the coveted 60 series Toyota Landcruiser. This sturdy rack can serve all your roof rack needs with a sleek design that is both aesthetically pleasing as well as fully functional. Integrated features such as grab handles and mounting points for additional accessories. Everything you need to install the rack is included.

Features:
  • Fits all 60 series Landcruisers (60, 62, FJ, BJ) except high top roof imports.
  • Streamline, compact, low-profile shape improves aesthetics, aerodynamics, and wind noise. The top of the rack is only 3” above the center rib on the roof.
  • Marine grade 5052-H32 aluminum, 0.19” thick side panels and 0.125” thick fairing that are black powder coated for added protection and aesthetics
  • All stainless hardware is included with black oxide coating to match the roof rack
  • Mounts in the gutter rails for minimal body contact with adjustable center support that corrects for factory tolerances of the gutter rail
  • 85.6” x 50” flat rack surface for mounting any accessories you wish like a roof top tent, gas cans, awnings, shower, recovery tools or even use it as a utility rack; flat surface allows for load overhang for wide and/or long accessories (see add-on accessories for load holding and accessory mounting options)
  • Obround holes in side panels double as grab handles when working around the rack
  • Mounting clamps include mounting holes for rock lights to be used for area lighting
  • Slots for front bar mounting allow for adjustment to add a low-profile light bar (notched fairing is currently in design phase)
  • Check out our add-on accessories for mounting awnings, jacks, gas tanks, and other accessories - many accessories in the works (see Instagram or Facebook pages)
  • Includes thread locking compound and thread locking nuts to ensure your rack stays secure and minimizes maintenance
  • 9, 50” long, 1” x 2” rectangular profile t-slot crossbars (will ship direct from supplier in separate box), black (you can request silver if you plan on loads that may scratch as the silver crossbars are less prone to show the scratches)

Also - hoping to introduce the same rack for 80 series fitment once I can get my hands on a vehicle for measurements and validation.

Other products in prototype stages (pictures coming soon or follow my Facebook/Instagram social media accounts):
  • Roof Rack Accessories:
    • Universal vertical accessory mount - mounting location for awnings, highlift jack, shower, etc.
    • Universal horizontal accessory mount - this is a plate that mounts between the crossbars for mounting accessories to the top of the rack, includes a universal bolt pattern that works with RotoPax, MaxTrax, and many other accessory mounts.
    • Quick Release awning mount - I don't like to leave my accessories on the vehicle when I'm using it as a commuter, this bracket will enable quick assembly and removal
  • FJ62 center console accessory panel - fits around the shifters and makes that area usable space for accessories like GPS/Tablet mounts, etc. Includes usable cup holder locations as the 62 cup holders will only support a 12oz can. Will post CAD drawings soon.
  • 60 Series Gull Wing Rear Quarter Panels - Lockable, swing out panels that replace the rear quarter windows. They will mount in place of your rear quarter windows. I've got 2 versions in the works - a plain door panel with Molle panel on the backside of the hatch and a version with an interior box for storing stuff.
  • Universal Pickup Bed Rack - This design has been in the works for about 4 years. It is adjustable in height and width so it can be setup on almost any vehicle and will easily transfer from one to the other. You can see my REV3 version on my website or social media accounts.
Also - Shot me a message if there is a product lacking for your vehicle option and maybe I just might design it!

I would think your roof rack would fit an 80-series even in its current setup. I always thought ‘dimensionally’ they were similar enough to be the same for most roof racks out there?

Agreed - I just need to get my hands on an example to take some measurements! Mostly need the gutter to gutter width but also need to make sure the curvature is similar (the gutter on the 60 actually curves up and out in the mid-section.

Riiiiiiigggghhhhhttttt.... I keep forgetting about the gutter panels on yours, Bowfin, Prinsu and the like. My roof rack is a 'traditional' tube that is secured via individual gutter mounts to the drip rails. This would work on a variety of vehicles that meet length/width, so long as it attaches via gutter mounts....

BTW... if you were closer... I'd happily supply mine as a 'runway model'... :princess:

First hope is that it fits directly. Next step is just changing the crossbar widths. If the profile is different, I'll have to create a different cut profile for the side panels. It's designed as 2 parts per side to keep shipping costs down. One of the attachment plates is adjustable and is the third contact to the gutter rail so if the profile is close, it can be adjusted to work. However, the front and rear contact are designed to follow the gutter profile so as to distribute the load so my preference is to make vehicle specific side panels. Keep your eyes peeled, hoping to get an 80 application going soon!
