homemade, local professionally made.... bumpers front and rear, post the pics up so we can see what they look like, please give some feedback on the design of bumper and please tell us who who made it, and how much was the cost.
This is my homemade bumper. The base is made from a 10mm steel-plate which was used to stand an oven on. The bigger 90mm tubes are galvanized and from a scaffolding.
The smaller tubes have a diameter from around 50-65mm, but im not sure.
The bumper is fixed to the frame on 4 original holes.
This is a picture of the front bumper that I made for my truck summer before last. I started with 6" by 3" tube stock (3/16" wall) for the bumper body. I notched the ends and welded them back together so they would taper upwards and backwards outboard of the frame rails. I then cut slots in the body for 1/2" thick plate to pass through the bumper and attach to the frame with recovery points forward of the bumper. I did this for a solid continuous load path for attachment to the frame and any loads from the bumper or recovery. The up rights started as 1/4" thick flat stock with 1/8" flat stock wrapped around the perimeter. The bolts you can see protruding from the front support my hi-lift jack when on the trail. The tubing for the bull bar is 1.5" dia (1/8" wall) DOM that I bent up to follow some of the lines of the truck and the bumper body. If (when) I locate a 24 volt winch and have money to purchase it with, I will modify the bumper to accept the winch
The cost was just the purchase of the raw steel and the bolts for attachment to the frame. My time/labor was officially a freebie, but did take me a lot of weekends to complete so I did invest a lot into it.
Also, the rear bumper is still a project in work. I have it on the truck, but I still need to add a swing out tire carrier and possibly a few other features that I am considering before it is complete.
