Take this word of advice....if you get sliders and start wheeling it in anything more than Cullowhee....get longfields and poly performance rears. That large and heavy a tire WILL break axles.
I did and I was on 35" MTRs.

I hear you.... don't think it will see any hardcore action for a while maybe ever; I for now have lost my desire for being a hardcore wheeler ;p
but if I do remember correctly Dan, you were hammering that 80 pretty hard up on school bus; when the rear tire that was spinning wildly high in the air slammed down getting traction....... and then bang
I wheeled the FJ62 pretty hard with stock axles and lockers and 37's and never broke axles; now that pinion is a different story
I believe a lot of it has to do with how heavy your right foot is and ones willingness to take a strap or winch
but I am sure I will prove myself wrong at some point and pop an axle in the 80 and Mary E will divorce me

but expensive
the 80 is pretty much done how it is for now, maybe some sliders down the road but I am goint to shift my focus to the 40 this coming summer
need to get the resto underway before the rust becomes a factory........ 45 years in Nevada no rust; 1 year in SC rust is starting to pop up

Just learn to repeat this mantra: "It's not breakage, it's an upgrade opportunity".
And keep enough buried in the mayo jar in the yard to buy those chrome-molys when the time comes.

Dan, hammer the 80? Nah...and I am sure it also didn't have anything to do with the extra 1000 pounds of tools, kids, gear, and toxic waste barrel linining that the 'Cado is dragging around.
