Just got back from a weekend in the desert. Sunroof tips, but will not slide back. Thinking some grit maybe lodged in the tracks or the wind deflector is hanging up. Seems to be stuck on the driver’s side front corner. Anyone know how to get into the tracks if the roof won't open?

Looked in the search, man o man there's allot of people with plugged drain holes...

Can you hear the motor run when you press the switch? Does it tilt open? If the motor is running, but it's not opening, you may have a broken cable. If the motor doesn't run, I check fuses 1st.

The cables broke on my 4Runner's sunroof and had to be replaced. Cables were pretty expensive as I recall. Replacement requires you to remove the headliner and the glass. Procedure is in the FSM.

Bob,

Thanks for the heads up on the cables... The motor works, the sun roof tilts and can also slide back about 1/2 inch and then jambs up. That’s way I think I have something lodged in the track or the wind deflector is caught.

I recall reading a posting in the past, somewhere on the web, about a screw backing out partially, and thus blocking the sunroof from opening. I don't recall where I read the post, and do not recall the process to fix, other than it was a bit difficult to deal with.

If the 80 uses the same setup as the 4Runner, there are two cables, one for each side. If one breaks, it can cause the binding that you describe.
