Well this one had me stumped.Had a fella come up today, his 40 had left signal but not right signal,it worked in the morning and then quit,he would turn the rig off start it up it would work then quit. Tested all the curcuits all ok.Hmm must be the switch took it apart cleaned it up and it worked ,then quit.tested all the solder joints in the switch but noticed the curcuit board had a slight curve to it,just enough that the contact bar would not hit both knobs in the switch.Pulled the little springs out and stretched them ,put the contact bars back in and works exellant. Might be something to look at next time your signals act up.

Since the board is only held in place by four metal tabs at each corner, I could see it warping after 30 years. This is a new thing to check for sure. Good eyes! I added that to my list of things to check...

Good catch. When my rt blinker quit working it ended up being the interior housing of the blinker unit that was rusted out. The exteriors are plastic so they look fine cosmetically from the outside but open them up and they are full of rust.

Here is a blurred pic but you can still see the slight curve in the board .(have to get a better camera or learn to take close ups). As you can see the switch contacts were in exellant shape, just had to streatch the springs to contact.

Guys there might be more to this ,I,ve done two more 45s with intermitent blinkers seems to have solved it .One of them just had week springs under the contact bar.

Always good to check the grounds too. If you've got juice at the wire going into the turn signal - check the signal light housing to fender ground. may need to bypass the corrosion with a grounded wire to check.

X2 for sure I,m a great believer in the grounds. And this one really acted like bad grounds. However it looks like the old 30 year springs heat up or get weak and wont hold the contact bar in place. In these cases anyway.
