My car had an immobilizer problem a couple years ago do to water ingress. I opened up all the main connectors in the kick panel and behind the dash and dried them out with a hair dryer. I couldn't get it started for a couple of days but finally came back to life. Here's the thread: Troubleshooting B2799 Immobilizer Problem - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/troubleshooting-b2799-immobilizer-problem.1271450/
Thank you! Unfortunately we’ve already cleaned up all the plugs, and the corrosion continuously comes back… even after everything has been dried up and sealed. The corrosion was far worse than we expected :”(

They totaled the rig!

I really appreciate everyone’s help through this adventure. Unfortunately there isn’t another LC in my area that will work with my budget. Going to look at a 4R trd orp after work today.

Mud is too cool, thank you for the short lived community experience in the 200 section.

Till next time!

Congratulations! I wouldn't write off a 200 because it’s not in your area, I flew 2 states over to get mine…
Thank you! I work in international/domestic relocation, so buying a rig out of state and trucking it wouldn’t be a hassle. To avoid instantaneous problems I’m looking at a certified pre-owned, and they’re definitely out of my price range.

4R sounds like a safe bet for the time being, I see a 40 or 55 series LC in my future though!

I drove 24 hours round trip for mine. It was a labor of love.
Wow! I’ll look at some out of state options for LCs, hopefully there is something!

I know I will miss them if I get a 4r, which I’ll be happy with too. Nothing I’ve owned has lived up to my LC when it was running good.

The thing about the LC is the production numbers were just so low compared to a 4runner. Or a tahoe. Or basically any other competitor you could think of lol. So there are relatively few of them for sale at any given time. Add in parameters like model years, mileage, no accidents, color, etc and the number dwindles quickly. I looked for months and finally found the right truck in Tennessee. I had a PPE done and drove from Texas because it checked all my boxes. At the time there wasn't a single LC for sale in Texas that fit my criteria.

So, if you can be patient and willing to travel then you can find exactly what you're looking for. But if you need a new truck quick it will be more challenging. The good news is there are probably more built trucks on the used market in the PNW than in Texas.

4Runners are great and I wouldn't fault anyone for buying one. In the end nothing compares to a Land Cruiser though. Glad to hear you're out from under the nightmare truck you had before. Good luck with your search!

Thank you! I’d admit I’m slightly impatient, I also don’t have a great vehicle for the rainy season coming up, we take regular trips over the mountain passes in the winter. If time allowed, I would definitely wait. Since Toyota has had my truck for over a month, it already feels like I’ve been waiting. No matter what I get, I’m extremely excited for reliability, and dealer support with a certified vehicle. Now when we camp, I won’t have the thought of a faulty vehicle leaving us in the woods in the back of my mind.

What really sucks however, is how much time I’ve spent researching on mud, getting to know every little in and out of the truck, and knowing it may not be useful information now. Oh well, I’ll have more to learn on the 4R!

I'd encourage you to do a search for a 200 on all the usual sites (autotrader, cars.com, cargurus etc.). See what's out there before you go TRD PRO T4R. You will pay a premium for a TRD PRO...likely very comparable to a 200 Series (albiet a bit older LC and with higher miles). Check out carmax as well. And you can always buy an extended warranty for the 200 Series. There are some extended warranties out there that will give you that CPO piece of mind. T4R and a 200 just aren't the same. If it were me, I'd exhaust all my options before I'd move away from the LC.

The pro is definitely not work the prices they’re currently asking. The off-road premium checks most of the boxes, has KDSS, and is a bit cheaper. This is what I’d buy if I go the 4R route. I will keep looking up till the last minute for an LC however! Maybe I’ll get lucky and one will pop up! I dreaded this day coming for this reason haha.

I appreciate your advice! Back to the LC search for me!

Don't forget, there is a Lexus LX570 that is (almost) exactly like the Land Cruiser.

The farewell photo, and the possible but not certain replacement photo, we’ll see…

Which brings the question: what will happen to it now? Just curious. Crushed? Junk yard? Parted out?

Good question! My agent mentioned she may have me sign a form stating the car is for parts only, just so another sucker doesn’t end up with it. To anyone reading in WA, if you want a nice ICON kit, check the junkyards!

The LC is in a different class, no doubt, but 4Runners are great vehicles. I was very close to getting a TRD ORP to replace the GX, but 200 that came available I just had to jump on. I know that part of me is going to occasionally wish for, though, the smaller vehicle size and that awesome power window in the tailgate
