They’re now saying repinning/repairing won’t work, and replacing the harnesses is my only option. Not many independent shops want to touch it… or at least anytime soon.

At a loss here guys, might have to fork over 20.

Going into the dealership tomorrow for them to show me the damage to see if I can call BS on anything.

IMO, yes.

Due to the attention to detail needed for successfull (and warranty-capable) wiring repairs dealers often won’t repair multi-pin harnesses when they are even slightly damaged. The harnesses themselves aren’t cheap but a lot of that 20k is the labor of pulling your dashboard and interior.. personally I’d desperately try to avoid letting them do that. So much can go wrong.. and open a can of worms of rattles and squeaks and such.

If you do some digging on here about water in the kick panel you’ll see a number of pictures of corroded pins and what people have done to fix them.
 
Well, went into Toyota today. With insurance not being able to help me out here, and their sales department not willing to take a risk, it looks like we’re out of options other than to have the truck repaired. I learned from the tech, my truck was purchased at a very dishonest dealership, and that they are constantly repairing cars from here.

I’ll keep this thread updated, and see where we go from here…

If not check the clubhouse section of this forum.

Based on your location it seems like you live close to a major city.

I have aaa plus so free tows as far as 50 miles away.

I loved these when they first came out and really wanted one. But like you, when I test drove one I was pretty underwhelmed. It was just so sluggish. If Toyota still offered a V8 4Runner I probably would have left with one that day. In hindsight, I'm glad I held out for the LC.

I have spoke with a few, who are very hesitant to get involved. The only person willing to do it is booked through November. I would hate to continue to have it towed from shop to shop, just to end back up at the dealer.

I’m willing to pay a little for convenience here, and they’re understanding of the price and trying to find a way to get it a bit cheaper.

At this point I just want it running, then I will consider trading it in for a newer model, or selling it, which I may feel guilty about. We will see.

My previous vehicle was a 2nd gen Tacoma with the 4.0, it’s an excellent motor, but I don’t think the 4runner is the right application. The LC has some pep, better look than the GX (personal opinion), and has just enough bells and whistles for me. A v8 runner would be perfect though! We can kiss that thought goodbye hahaha.
 
I know how you must feel... Sinking 20K into a maybe situation is a bit crazy especially without guarantees... If you have the 20k to put into the repair + whatever you can get for what's left of it... you might be better off moving on and finding another LC

That’s exactly it. Once they get it running, I’ll be considering other options. It completely goes against my morals to potentially put this mess on the next guy, but I really can’t do it with this thing anymore. Hopefully this is the end of it, the main wiring harnesses are being replaced, and a lot of the computers already have been, so it should be close to over.

This is what i came to say.. Surely you can sell it with issues disclosed for 15-20k (obviously getting it started would go a long way in this). That +20K would buy a newer/nicer LC.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. What a bummer. Right on, Good for you being ethical and not dumping it on another guy but have you considered trading it in, back to the same dealership who sold you this bag of lemons? Let them deal with this migrain.

I most likely could, but that would take a pretty specific buyer I unfortunately don’t have time to wait for. Once it’s running I may still sell it, with knowledge of the previous issues.

There is an 18 near me for around 60k I’m considering now!

I am a younger person who is fortunate enough to be able to go about this. I can’t imagine if I had a family/different financial situation and was hit with this, could have been devastating. Still kind of is. No one deserves this! Selling it back to the dealership would be a hoot. I initially read their amazing Google reviews, and just found out their BBB is a D-… some fault from me there.
 
Looks like you're in WA state. In this scenario, and if you are dedicated to getting it right, I'd ship it to Overland Cruisers in Bozeman. Top notch LC specific shop. Just a thought...good luck man.

I actually work in the relocation industry, so naturally I considered trucking it somewhere as an option! If it weren’t for time restraints I would. Unfortunately I’m currently driving my 74 Corolla I’ve restored, and need something else before the rain, or worse comes!

You will like the jump made to the 2018 in terms of capability and luxury compared to the early years of the 200s. 2013 brought some moderate improvements, and was the newest I could afford years back. The 2016 and newer years are a substantial update. Safe to say you will No Longer be Dissapointed and for real this time with a 2018 lol.

I would consider buying your LC only from a private seller, Toyota Dealer or Carmax. Carmax includes warranties and return options which would have come in handy dealing with this bag of lemons you unfortunately were delt.

Hahaha, I wanted a 2018 initially, but got what I could afford as well. Things have changed in the last 9 months and I may be back in the market! I’ve absolutely learned my lesson, Toyota or Carmax only from now on. I spoke with the sales department today who also mentioned purchasing a certified pre-owned from them would have saved my ass. You win some, you lose some!
