Yesterday I was on my way to work and sitting at a stoplight . Light turns green I give the skinny pedal a press and crap , it died. I tried to restart . No go !
its raining pretty heavy at the time.
After more investigating I noticed no fuel in the sight glass.
What gives?

defective fuel pump.....defective float in the carb?

probably not the float...but technically it could stop functioning properly.

The fuel filter is probably the easiest thing to check, so I'd try that first.

The fuel filter is about a year old but I'll check it. Is there more than the one under the hood to check?

out of gas?

Ha. There's plenty of gas but I have a few friends that that would of been the first think I'd ask

Same thing happen to me last month. New filter. Pulled hose inlet to carb, then crank engine to check if fuel will come out, No fuel came out.

Pull the fuel pump. upon inspection of the pump the diaphram is not working. No inlet suction during priming pump. Installed a new pump and it's working now :)

What about using an electric pump instead? I've tried all the local parts stores with no luck. But they all have electric ones.

Well thats par for the course...you have a old LC ..you generally don't find much in stock at the local part store. Get another toyota or asisn mechanical fuel pump and go with that....replace that crappy OEM fuel filter too (its cheap).

Napa usually has a good supply of Toyota parts but there closed here today.
What's another year and model pump I could use?

If you can, I would wait and get a good Aisin part:

And Fuel filter....a local Toyota dealer will most likely have this part at the same price:

The pro tip with replacing the fuel pump is to remember to put back on the spacer between the engine and pump itself....it's also possible someone removed it along the way. Without the spacer the pump will die an early death.

The best advice is stay with the toyota or asisn brand fuel pump and fuel filter for your specific truck, not that I like the stock fuel filter...it does work though.

Unless your local dealer has a half a clue about parts for land cruisers (many do not). i would get in touch with one of the guys here on the board that are Toyota Dealer parts guys who offer some reasonable discounts and they know what they are talking about.

Sad to say...but many toyota dealers parts guys don't have a clue if its an old LC.

OK got the new pump installed.
How much fuel should be coming out of inlet line going into carb?
As in a trickle or quite a bit.
I got it running but no fuel shows in the sight glass still. I can just barely see fuel droplets through the glass.
Fuel bowl stuck?
