No "D" for me when I got her at 160K.

Ah damn....I decided to be kind and retire the princess to weekend driving......a week later the D light craps out.

All of you just want the D :)

Do you have links or part numbers for this conversion? I would love to do that. Thanks

I just bought 20 "t4 neo wedge" LEDs from eBay. They will fit all the center light positions. I bought LEDs for all my other dash lights as well but can't really recommend them. The large ones are super bright (too bright for me) and the mid sized ones are unreliable. The small T4 size have been fine though. There is a FAQ on LEDs on this site.

Isn't it probably time to start a D Club? Only those with the D still working? Probably a fairly small group at this point!

How difficult is it to change the bulb?

I think it's quite easy, but I've had my gauge clusters out several times. A couple of screws to take the lower dash out, the middle section just pulls out, two screws to pull the top trim piece out and you have access. The only tricky part is maneuvering the gauge cluster itself out of the dash. I'd recommend doing the temp gauge mod while it's out.

Seriously?

Who cares about a tiny useless fxxxing light on a 20 year old truck?

Sorry, forgot the audience here.

Carry on.

Thanks. I use a Scangauge to monitor temp, so I don't rely on the stock gauge.

So do I but I'm an electronics nerd and had the stuff laying around so I modded it anyway. I move my scan gauge between vehicles from time to time so it's nice having a stock gauge that actually works.

I have been in the no "D" club since I picked up my 80. I read through just enough of this thread to get to the part numbers and dash disassembly instructions...

With parts and tools in hand over the weekend I came back to the thread and saw the "slam the top of the display" fix. Put tools down, wrapped hand in shop rag, slammed fist at plastic gauge cover and presto - I'm "D-lighted"

which means I'm out of the no "D" club

until it's out again, thanks for all of the info

Ha ha - for me, being a mechanical engineer, that is my first response to any electrical problem. Glad to see it worked for you. However in this case I replaced the D light many years ago with an OEM replacement, so I'm sure I'll be due at some point again in the future. The D light was out in my Tundra though and I never bothered to fix it. When I sold it, the guy buying my truck pointed it out immediately. I shrugged. My mom's Avalon had the D light out too. :meh:

Hehe, I never knew that the "D" was supposed to illuminate, too funny.

No "D" when I bought mine at 206k. I'm debating on whether I want to fix it or not.
