Does anyone have experience with these tires?

Was going to run the KO2 in 285/75/17 but they look to be pretty universally out of stock right now. Starting looking at the Nitto trail grapper and note they come in both 285/75/17 and a 35/11.5/17. (34.76 x 11.42)

Would be curious if anyone has any experience with these tires. Especially the 35x11.5 since it is almost an inch narrower than similar BFG 35"D offerings.

Thanks!

Fireball, try doing a search on these boards. But in brief: They are an AT/MT hybrid. They are heavy!. They look aggressive but are still relatively quiet. Pretty good on road and great on dry trails. Are ok in the sticky stuff but I would say are not the best at casting or clearing mud. Durable and long lived. Overall: better than average AT. They share maximum points for looks with Toyos, their sisters.

Talk to Travis ( @Willy beamin )

He ran those for a couple years.

I ran the 35x12.5x17. Billfish is correct about the TG's being heavy. Pretty quiet for a while and then the howl grows with more miles. I was able to run these in all conditions, ice, snow, sand, mud, sticky clay, and roots / rocks. The TG Mts won my confidence and I never experienced a traction issue. Before I removed them I racked up 50,000 miles on a 5 tire ration and the tread is more than half way gone. I still have them on a pallet. Die hard tire. Ran the STT PROs after the TGs. Coopers are a softer compound or felt so. Great tire too and not as noisy as the TG Mts.

Thanks for the feedback and information. They are over 6# heavier than the ko2s, and I have been very happy with the BFG tires I've run across all my various vehicles.

4WP looks like they may have a few Ko2s still available, so will give them a call and see if that's the case. If not, I'll have to try something new!

The Nitto Trail Grapplers in 35x11.5x17 are load range C. Very surprised to see that. Might be a deal breaker...

The 285/75/17 ko2s are still on backorder and I need to order this week! Darn decisions!

I'd echo what Mark suggested, unless you absolutely want a mud terrain tire, go with the Ridge Grapplers. Knowing how many highway miles you travel, I'd suggest staying away from full fledged MT unless you don't mind the noise/ride. I say this as someone who has used KO2s, Ridge Grapplers, KM2s, and General Grabber X3s. I'll never run a MT again unless I'm building something to play in the soup, but that's just my personal opinion.

Tire Rack is saying the KO2 should be available before the end of March if that changes your calculus at all.

Somewhat related, Ive got a trail grappler MT on a 18" LC rim that someone local can have for free. May make a good spare for someone. Size is 285/65/R18... and its brand new, zero miles. It was on my LC when I bought it as a spare and i ended up doing a matched KO2 on a RW rim.

My truck is going to Valley hybrids for suspension and aux tank next week so need to have tires shipped today or tomorrow. Otherwise I would wait for the ko2s.

I might give the ridge grapplers a try since the MTs were load-c.

C load is fine if you're just interested in load range. At 50psi your rig could be >9000# and they would be OK. If you want E load because of the thicker sidewall for off road tear resistance that's a different story.

FWIW I have Nitto RG in 285/75R17. I really like them. They've done well in snow and ice here in Chicago, on long highway trips with my rig >8000#, on the rocks, etc. They have a bit of a hum that starts around 15-20mph and continues from there, but the noise isn't bad, certainly nowhere near as loud as an M/T tire. I'm at 22k miles on them and they've just barely worn the first little lip off the treads, so I suspect they will solidly go 60k miles with my 5 tire rotation.

KM3, KM3, KM3 (soft whisper coming from somewhere in your mind)

Don't currently come in the size he's shopping. KM3s are 70 aspect ratio for a 285/17 or you have to move to a 35x12.5x17.

Look at the Ridge Grapplers. I just ordered 5 based on this board's excellent feedback. Not as aggressive on the tread but they are still a mud/AT hybrid.

Oh yeah , my mistake. I got the 295/70/17 KM3's. I will say I rode in a new Tundra recently with 35" Toyo MT's and it was too noisy for me if I had them full time on my rig. But our 200's are better sound insulated I imagine. I have heard that Toyo makes the Nitto MT. I have no idea if it is true. They do look almost identical and probably sound the same.

I started to get the Ridge Grapplers. They look like a great all terrain and look like they would last forever

As I recall, I think @TonyP had the Toyo muds, and reported serious loudness. Especially when they start to wear.

Ridge Grapplers are super quiet for what they are. Just be sure they are properly balanced (request dynamic balance on balance “machines”...) rotate regularly, and follow Mud’s PSI Ninja’s ( :poof: @gaijin ) road pressure recommendations and they’ll ride nicely.

My only RG complaint is that they are heavy... 285/75R17 is like 65#.

Yes, Toyo M/Ts. Killer tire off-road on all surfaces, a little bit noisy on the road. As to be expected with a big lugged M/T.

My Trail Grapplers (285/75/17) are load range E, if that helps. I like them, but they do show signs of chunking out. Have been running them for 2 years now and so far no problems.
