First off I'am referring to the return line gearbox nipple for a minitruck power steering conversion ;)

I got my gear box off eBay about a year ago and just let it sit around and now that I'am finally putting to together I can't find a nipple that will work..

I actually spent the money for the one from JT but the threads on that one are way to big to fit into my gear box, yet their conversion line fit just fine

JT nipple here http://www.jtoutfitters.com/product/RLGN

They say that their parts work for all 79-85 4wd Pickup and 4 Runner Steering Boxes, which is what the eBay listing said also. The listing actually referred to the conversion for a FJ40

I couldn't find any numbers on the gearbox, just said Toyoda at the bottom

So I guess my first mistake was buying from JT

Anybody know where I can get the correct nipple

Thanks

I hate those straight nipples. They put your return line too close to the exhaust. I went to the dealership and looked at different years on the computer until we saw one that was a 90 degree fitting and I ordered it. It works great and for the life of me I do not understand why all of these conversions and adapters offered are using a straight configuration. If you want a photo, let me know and I will post one.

Do you still have the part number for it???

By the way, when I did my power steering conversion I also bought the mounting bracket for JT Outfitters. I put the bracket in place with clamps to get the right alignment and distance from the steering coupling. I looked at the angle of the steering shaft coming through the firewall and the angle of the gear box and well let’s say I was VERY DISAPPOINTED. I took the bracket off and tossed it into my scrap metal pile. I order another mounting bracket from Classic Cruisers out of Colorado. It was predrilled for the gear box and to mount where the factory rivets were. I mounted the bracket and it was obvious that the angle was different. I put the gear box on and it was spot on for angle and distance to attach to the steering coupling. Personally, I think the only way the JT bracket works is if you are running a body lift.

i ordered a straight nipple from c-dan. no problems

used a box mount built by "wdorry" on this board. Beefy, predrilled for rivet holes in frame.

I know that somewhere in those storage boxes there is not only the plastic bag it came in but one adapter still in the bag - I bought two. I don't mean to tell you I can find that today. It's 106 and my shop is just sweltering. I've got a call into the parts person at Desert Toyota that has been “the man” for getting the parts I've needed. The guy has actually found parts in Japan that were no longer available in the US. He may be able to look up the order and give me the info. I'll let you know.

That would be alot of help

I went by the Toyota place today and they couldn't give me any help in what nipple I needed. I believe there was 4 or 5 different ones all of which were special order and non-returnable

My parts guy just called back and said the part number for the 90 degree fitting that is flair by hose is 44416-34010. You need to look in your low pressure return and make sure there is a flair at the bottom of the port for this nipple to seal against.

Or stop by autozone and get a 3/8" flare fitting (IIRC)

Then you have two sitting around ;)

That one yours?

That is an excited return fitting, IIRC. Used to see it quite a lot. Not so much, recently;)
