The UZ 4.3 V8 in that is even quieter and smoother than the 5.7 UR. That engine is biggest part of why the 430 is so special and held in such high regard by Lexus folks.

I’ve driven an LS500, 3.4tt sounds like crap, turbo lag, and fake noise comes through the speakers. Lexus screwed up big time, not just the engine either with the LS.

The goal is to focus US purchasing to TMNA's own products like Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma. It isn't about sales numbers or profits or customer demand, it is about carving out a bespoke US market and the LC as a flagship has always been in the way of that goal.

With Alpha out of the way, the Betas may play.
 
The 3.5 will deliver better mileage, but I don't think by all that much. Couple MPG maybe. Regular drivers will be heavy into the boost.

Vastly inferior to the 5.7; you can't argue with displacement or especially eight cylinders.
I certainly love V8's and it's engine characteristics.... so much I'm thinking about buying another before they go away. But the 3.5TT will have more power potential and not lose 24% power at 8k ft altitude. 10-20% increased fuel economy also means 10-20% added fuel range.

Nice pics...couple of observations:

The 300 replacement looks really nice. Not a fan of the front fascia, but I can understand why they may have gone that route for safety and slightly better gas mileage (considering many if not a large majority of these will never leave pavement).

From the spy pictures, it looks like there is a split gate rear...The rear seam is at the right location for it. Also, not sure why any maker would want to further increase cost by adding a split seam.

Looks like the new LX replacement is nearing completion...the current front end doesn't fit the current Lexus design philosophy with their spindle grills and stuff.

As for Lexus, I do find it somewhat odd that they would drop the TT engine into this vehicle...considering it's one of their more expensive crown vehicles. If anything, I'd expect them to use some variant of a forced induction V8 for some bragging rights...maybe they will surprise the US market with such an engine to further differentiate the two brands?

I doubt it will happen with the new administration in the US so focused on fuel economy and emissions

Yeah unfortunately I agree, forget that you can buy an 8500 lb 3500 truck that will smoke luxury cars from 20 years ago that can tow 30,000 pounds and deliver 16MPG unloaded.

Soon a company that willfully and knowingly kills off its own Alpha vehicles to parade their Beta vehicles as the best they can do...

Will probably sell re-badged BMW's & Subaru's as their own attempting to fool their illiterate poorly informed customer base...

This will leave a gap in the free market in which a competitor in vehicle manufacturing will happily provide a new Alpha vehicle to replace the previous.ly offered...

Would be pretty cool if a variant of the IS500 5.0L V8 found its way into the US spec LX

It already is. The 5.0L is the tuned variant of the 5.7L 3UR.

Unless we are entering the quantum-era of internal combustion engines, in general, efficiency and reliability are inversely proportional. At 37% thermal efficiency on this engine, I do however find it quite hard to imagine it can be de-tuned to both reliability and producing enough torque. BUT it is a stroker engine (which is impressive) and I'm eager to see what is done with it.
 
Remember that the TTV6 gas engine isn't necessarily the end game for the 300 for the next decade. There's been rumors that a few years from now a hybrid option might be available (nobody knows). Toyota has publicly stated that the internal combustion engine does not have a future (for all their vehicles)

Ford seems really confident in their hybrid PowerBoost's ability to tow

Ford also sells V-8 engines to their customers because they listen to them and respect them...

Additionally, figuring they (customers) are smart enough to know their own requirements & needs...

Unlike some other companies who have determined they know what is best for their cult followers...

Who will blindly and obediently "hear & obey" and purchase what they are told by the marketing division for their respective country...

Electric motors are AWESOME for instantaneous and low-end torque...it's literally on demand.

I think an electric assist makes a lot of sense for on-demand torque applications like initial dynamic loads needed for acceleration and towing.

Offroad applications seems a bit more tricky.

The TT-V6 is not a slouch of an engine, but the application of a performance car versus a truck are just too different in my mind to really justify such a setup. However, Ford bet big by shoving such an engine into the Expedition and the F150 trucks. I'm not a fan on the way they tuned those engines (Raptor excluded). Should be interesting next few years
