That's a bummer... Frame might still be straight though
The owner was screaming instructions at the deck truck operators when they loaded it. I don’t think he’s ready
to send his taco off salvage yard. In fact, unless the frame took a twist it looked pretty recoverable.
Stupid accident. Just basic non attention.

Avoiding doing actual work. Tried making a soft shackle.

Pretty easy, lanyard knot is a bit of a tongue twister but still took maybe 15 minutes for the first one and some of that was googling.
I have a ton of this skinny amsteel, but also some thick ass stuff that'd be good for winching.
There's a version called "bubba shackles" which are tied a bit differently. Look a bit cleaner, might have to try that if I can figure out how they did it.

For all Webasto guys. They’ve changed the name. Now called TT Evo ( no longer TSL17 )
This site seems to be reasonable price For all things Webasto.

Looks good. I think I recognize that rope!

You probably do. I still have a wine carboy full of it.

Not sure if these are any easier to use than just tying a bowline, but...beats doing actual work.
Considering the size the lanyard knot ended up in this skinny stuff, I'm kinda leery of how big it'll be if I make one of these out of the 3/4" amsteel I have

Guess we all better start brushing up on electrical theory.

Already working on it... our 2008 Prius with 100k miles is challenging my brain. I am finding it nice to be able to spin off/out nuts and bolts with my finger tips once they are loosened a bit.

1) Fuel economy has been down a bit because the mechanical thermostat has been opening to soon... therefore the engine keeps running to keep it in optimal temperature range.

2) The 12v battery is getting tired... therefore the engine keeps running because it’s not putting out enough voltage... even though it’s not used for starting, and there’s more than enough to energize the power button.

3) The high voltage NiMh battery is 12+ years old, and isn’t charging right because the computer algorithms are being fooled by a surface charge... reducing capacity.

4) On top all that the computer doesn’t seem to think there are any issues. I hate computers.

Toyota has moved on and no one wants to resolve these sorts of issues. Car technology becomes obsolete and most manufacturers don’t update older models... they just improve for future models and if you bought earlier you’re sol.

In hindsight I’m questioning my choice to buy a car with 5 major computers. And from what I’ve seen the 2nd Generation Prius was one of the best ones. Newer models & cars seem to be much worse.

Newer electric cars seem to be much worse... Nissan is practically hanging Leaf owners out to dry when their batteries fail. Replace the car is the mentality... cheaper... so wasteful. I hate to see what’s coming in the future. I know I won’t be in a hurry to go electric. The planet doesn’t appear to have the resources to switch all cars to electric. Battery technology isn’t there yet... and hydrogen makes even less sense.

Did I mention how much I hate computers? Even more the direction things are heading. It can’t be good for the environment to scrap <10year old cars. The carbon footprint of building my 40 seems small in comparison to 5 cars that would replace it now... and it’s still going strong.

Oh I don't particularly disagree. I've looked at most vehicles for the past decade or two as something I wouldn't want to own after the warrantee expired.

I'll keep driving my s***ty old cruisers until they won't let me, or I cave and downsize to get something a bit more civilized for commuting, or I get tired of the maintenance.

The stinkeye we get with tailpipe smoke is only going to get worse once we're outnumbered by electrics. Probably get pulled over for it more often, until it becomes a pain in the ass.

Always been the same deal tho.

Every new jump in technology comes with people who grew up with the previous one feeling left behind.

I doubt there's that many kids being born right now that'll ever drive a diesel. If not this batch of kids, then the ones born in ten years. :(

Kinda cool. Too bad there aren't more FC trucks around.

Probably tough to keep the test dummies alive in crashes I guess.

Heh, I saw that too and just about posted it here yesterday. I thought it was pretty neat. A talented body guy could probably make it happen. Might need to swap to a boxer engine to have the cab sit that low though. :D

Ha, once gm is 100% electric I guess some of the usual issues with space will be gone....:worms:

I don't hate the cab over 40...but I bet getting the steering to work took some ugly ****ery

Wish I'd got a pic, but I had a nice little blue townace park next to my green thing at the pub back when that sort of thing was normal.

I could see driving one of those if the engine in it was half decent.

Is the townace the JDM version of the 'toaster van' (LE van)? Apparently they had one of the worst front impact crash ratings of any Toyota.

Haha yeah I think so. This one was really clean, but I could see those front seats being about as safe as being strapped to the front bumper.

There was a really cool Isuzu cab over for sale in Duncan for quite a while. Fold down bed sides, 4x4, think it had a lift and decent sized tires on it.

Always liked it, but probably because it reminded me of a unimog....

I like the Isuzu/Hino cab overs too. If a 4-5l diesel one with crew cab came up for sale, it would certainly be tempting.

In Europe FC's are used almost exclusively as they are taxed on how much road they actually take up. So big rigs are all cabover. Not only
practical but maneuverability is better. With todays computer design no reason that FC GMC couldn't be made safe. Heck of alot safer than being
in a hatchback when any FullSize pick up runs you over.

Oh I'm sure. It's probably a perception they'd have to overcome more than anything.

Ever see that video where they do a head on with a new Malibu and one from the 60's or 70's?

All that bs about the extra steel in front of you making a difference, the old one was destroyed, the newer one the occupants would be mostly ok.

Ive got two biggest impressions. When Ford did the commercial of the new 2002/3 with the new
internal roll cage design after those absolutely crappy 1997-2001 or whenever that model year ended.
They pushed the new 4 door crushed between two bulldozers and immediately the design people
opened the doors and got out. New trucks are safer - period.
Partial reason I bought the Tundra was when I was looking at all kinds of trucks, at one point a really nice
classic ‘78 3/4 ton Ford. Gorgeous truck. Then I saw that Highway to Hell episode when the Tundra got
rear ended by a semi doing 100 kph and the Tundra drove home. Made an impression on me - ya know,
the going home part, instead of the ambulance ride part.
