I can't drive 50....
I think I looked at this rig...yeah check transfer case. It if is the one it had a webber carb and HEI iginition and aftermarket Tach/ Vacuum guage. Also had a lockrite in the back, so maybe you have super tall gears draining you of top end.
I'd be happy to look at it for you. PM me.
... Have you checked/confirmed that the tach is set for the correct number of cylinders?
...
If it truely is running 4,000 rpm s the engine would be really loud,is it? I think your going to have to look in and see what gears your running. MIke

Define "really loud"?Any F motor FJ40 is going to be "really loud" at highway speeds compared to most any other vehicle, so most new FJ40 drivers aren't going to have much to compare to. Is it "really loud" or "kinda really loud" or "really, really loud"?

Ok guys,
spoke to PO today and he said that it had no problems going up to 65. I'm gonna take some of your suggestions and start from there. Im gonna start off by stopping by azrider and/or leftarm and see what we can diagnoze in a short amount of time.
Hey M.hanson, its kind of hard to hear how loud the engine really is bc of all the other noise around it. Headers, Holes in floorboard, the aerodynamics.
fj40frk, that could be something too. when i got it, it did not have a smog pump. so i'm assuming some vacuum hoses might have been misplaced.
1. check out tach settings
2. see if 4th works
3. verify tc if that works
4. Verify i'm on 2h and not 4h. LOL
I'll keep you posted. Azrider and Leftarmtan. I'll PM you sometime late next week.

some expert on 40s that AZrider is - at best he sat in one, once![]()
actually, the loud gets complemented by scream(s)
... the aerodynamics.
